I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, we had the first major issue with the KF on 1 Jun 22; an engine problem with the 50HP Mercury. We launched and headed to our first fishing hole. Ran along at 5,300RPM as usual, but when we slowed to approach the fishing spot, the motor didn't sound quite right. Even the boy noticed it...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

It's been a while since we've worked on the Chief. Got sidetracked by other issues, including KF problems. 😕 But this morning we did some more solid riveting practice and followed a tip from @classicat to use less manual pressure on the bucktail side. It worked much better that way. (y)...

    1st time boat owner.

Neat looking old boat. I bet the handling is interesting with that hard, triangular chine.

    1963 Starcraft Rebuild

I haven't used soda blasting but opted for dustless blasting on my Chieftain instead. It was a bit cheaper than soda and doesn't leave a harmful residue. Quick too! (y)

Pairing engine size with boat size

And how long would it take for the 4-strokes to repay that $600 cost? :)

Pairing engine size with boat size

I had one of those boats 25+ years ago. Pretty neat. Mine had an old 75HP Chrysler 2-stroke on it and it cruised along at about 25MPH. Zero issues getting on plane. I used it in the Chesapeake Bay, the Upper Potomac and the Lower Potomac. Great old boat. When I left MD and moved down...

    Nobody fishing?

The boy and I got back out there yesterday. The last couple of trips we've had were vexing due to boat issues. 😠 And yesterday was another vexing day. But at least this time, the problem happened after the boy caught something! He asked my recommendation on what bass lure to use. I...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

We had that same thing happen with our practice rivets when we used material that was too thick or with tails too long.

Man, I'm so glad that I don't have an extra pile of money right now!

Whew! I'm glad that's over! :ROFLMAO: (No, I didn't buy it.)

Man, I'm so glad that I don't have an extra pile of money right now!

Such a deal! (y) :ROFLMAO: The one in the ad above has a single inboard. I've seen others with twins. I bet those old engines are expensive to feed nowadays.

Man, I'm so glad that I don't have an extra pile of money right now!

I bet that was pretty cool! Did it ever get finished? Wish I could do something similar, but it's too late for me now. I'll be happy if I can get my Chieftain done! :geek:
