    888 firing order 13726548. If it only idles smooth with 15426378 then you now have a 170 hp engine.

    Have you ever removed the suction tube from the tank? There is a fine mesh filter in it that clogs up over time. Get a 6 gallon outboard tank and take take the boat out. If it does better the engine will empty the tank pretty quick.

    Are you sure that the fuel system is clear? Have you checked the filter at the carburetor. What about the spin on filter, when you remove it turn it upside down in a clean container to check for water.

    Are you sure the heat exchanger is cleat? Also when the engine overheats does it push coolant out of the fill cap. If it does you might be having a head gasket leak. They do not show up until there is a load on the engine.

    To prove out the problem set up a 6 gallon outboard tank so that it is easy to connect it to the fuel filter inlet. Run the boat until it starts slowing down then switch to the 6 gallon tank.

    There is a small fine mesh screen inside the suction tube. Pull the tube out and push the screen out with some wire or sometimes it can be blown out with compressed air.

    Those cables only go in the converter box 1 way as the pucks at the ends of the cables are different sizes. It could be that that the lower unit is an earlier model than the boat with hydro shift. Or the other way. If it works and does not slip just re-connect the cables in the control box...

    Give the RTV a try, just clean everything and let it set a few days. Be sure to drain the coolant below the leaks. Some RTV sealants may not hold up against coolant so be sure which one you use.

    We were lucky as for as flooding as a lot of the surrounding areas did get water in their houses. We also got power and cable back within 18 hours. There are still plenty outages around. The flooding overwelms the drainage to a point that it also overtops the sewer system where toilet flushing...

    Outdrive failure?

    I Have rebuilt many mercruiser drives that burned up the upper gear set. I just pulled the rear bearing carrier and flushed out the housing. New seals and upper gears, good as new. What ever you do be sure that the drive can hold 10-15 psi. If the seller cannot show that keep looking.

    Have you tried removing the fuel rail nd blowing it out with compressed air. Maybe there is something stuck in the rail in the fitting that the injector plugs into.

    A vacuum gauge helps with the boat in the water. Quadrajets are usually happy at 3 turns out. But the idle stop screw has to be set where the next circuit is not coming on. Looking down into the Venturi there should not be any fuel bubbling from the boosters.

    We just lost power, Our Cummins/Onan just kicked in. I cannot believe we still have cable! Just a fact of life here in hurricane alley.
