Mercruiser 5.7L engine with a 1.84 outdrive. Prop suggestions.

It might work. I did a 4.3=> swap and kept the 1.81 V6 drive, just stepped up from 19" to 21" pitch (3=>blade). At the time the boat only had 37 hours on it so I hated to swap the drive out for the 1.62 it should have come with A 23" pitch might work especially if it is something that has cup...

Best prop size and pitch 00 regal 2100 LSR

If you got that trimmed out I would leave it alone. Should have been a nice upgrade vs the 5.0? So If i read this correctly you are basically at the same rpm as with the 5.0? I did a 4.3 =>5.0 repower and had to go up 2" in pitch. How much can you trim up? I found with the right prop...

    FULL POWER TILT PUMP

My grandfather had this set up on his 1966 Penn Yan . If i recall the white pump took atf And had very little capacity in it. We had some leaks and kept a oil can with a bendible nozzle on it as we had to refill it almost evry time out. I think later the mechanic we used replaced it with an MC1...

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

Antiphon valve will be on tope of tank. Someone added this screw on filter As they are not standard on 2.5/3.0 s that have the filter in the bowl of pump. You are pulling enough suction in the pump to collapse the pump filter. So something uo stream is closed off.

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

So you did nothing and it eventually primed- with collapsed filter? Could have been some debris in pump check valves that kept it from priming.

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

Probably to keep debris from manufacturing out of the fuel system long enough to get it through warranty.

Oil dipstick question for 4.5 owners, which way around?

if it is an 1-2" higher you are just getting oil off the side of the tube. and I would use the lower side for level. as for being 500ml or about 1/2 a qt over spec. when sucking out of a marine engine you never get all of it out. As I mentioned I add 4 qts after oil change and top up from...

Oil dipstick question for 4.5 owners, which way around?

how different are they - 1/4-3/8" ? You are probably getting some from the side of the tube when taking it. It doesnt have to be exact. My 5.0 I believe takes 5.5 qts after qc I never put in more than 4.5 qts .

Better muffs for Alpha One drives?

I do the same, but if you want to backfill you can do it from the thermostat too. I take the hose off that delivers raw water from outdrive to thermostat housing. I use a J shaped piece of an old radiator hose off one of my cars as a funnel to pour in AF. If you put the plugs back in you can...

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

Yeah filter should not be collapsed. Leave it out put bowl back on and see what happens. my 3.0 originally had a sintered ceramic filter with a spring holding it in place. Spring rusted out from water in bowl. No idea how many years i ran just fine without the filter in place and essentially...

Better muffs for Alpha One drives?

did you try twisting the rectangles that seal to drive 90 degrees so they are vertical. These are basically the same ones on use on my Alpha gen 2

    Anti-freeze Question . . . Change of Color ???

I would think zinc or any of the temporary hardness mineral deposits that might be in the bottom of the heater tank. PG is colorless so the dye is only for leak detection. Be interesting to put a pencil zinc in the AF to see what happens... Do you still get it testing as AF when it is clear?

98 4.3 Mercruiser Engine Removal Advice

Not sure what you are doing but I found it much easier to fully assemble and run on the ground. You can easily jumper out the cannon plug to test wiring harness etc then drop in the complete bob tail. I personally found it easier to remove the two lag screws holding the mounts to the stringers...

Water penetration in Alpha 1 sterndrive

Not sure the age of the boat but anything is possible. Even a boat kept under cover inside etc gets water in it. My previous boat had two soft spots in the floor where you came back on board from the swim ladder and between the consoles- where the floor got wet when in use. This was a boat that...

MPI fogging mixture vs fuel return

Yes there is a pressure regulator that bleeds off the excess pressure and fuel volume, but you are returning 10:1 and mixing it with 10:1 so it will be the same ratio not get more concentrated....

98 4.3 Mercruiser Engine Removal Advice

this is easier than removing an engine from a car with the exception of the height needed to pull. You can take the wheels off the trailer and roll it on the hubs if that gives you more height. Eventually you are going to re-install this or another engine? Would be good to figure out how you can...
