Great time to sell a used boat.

Personally, I think now is the WORST time to sell a used boat. If you're so inclined to buy used, most of what's for sale is junk. And most of the new models are sold out. So, you get a lot for the old one, but the new one costs more. It all balances out. I like it better when you can place...

    New here and need help

Have a prop shop fix / rebuild the prop, put it back on and go fishing. The repair is usually cheaper than buying a new prop.

    Old gas

If the boat was stored covered in a dry garage, snug as a bug in a rug, just take it out and run it....it'll be fine. If it was sitting outside in a damp cold environment, you probably will have a problem. If its somewhere in between, you won't know till you try it. If the gas smells good...

    1950 Reynolds Aluminum Boat

With some exceptions, the current marketplace is for people to get out on the water right now, without having to do a lot of work. The classic / antique market has dried up considerably. You might get a couple hundred for the entire rig, but you might have to wait a while. You didn't mention...

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

The USCG will not come to rescue you unless you are in imminent danger of dying....e.g., sinking, on fire, etc. If you are simply lost or run out of gas you will need to call a private contractor....i.e. SeaTow. Take a USCGA or Power Squadron boating course. The classes will help you gain...

Boat Very Hard to Steer to the Right Under Power

If its a Mercruiser, you move the aft end of the tab toward the direction it steers easy. For a Volvo, I assume its the same, but I really don't know the position on these motors. Refer to your owner's manual.

Boat Very Hard to Steer to the Right Under Power

Read the owner's manual for the engine. There is a trim tab on the AV plate that will compensate for side prop thrust. Obviously the previous owner didn't adjust it, or it corroded and fell off.

    1957 Evinrude Fleetwin pricing?

Unless it was converted that would require a 2-hose pressure tank. Do you have a fuel tank for it? After 44 years, few of these tanks are still usable unless all of the gaskets and hoses have been replaced. They need to seal perfectly so they can hold the pressure needed to pump gas to an...

    Swim deck kicker mount

I have that same bracket. Of all the kickers I've mounted that was the best bracket ever. I mounted mine using 5/16" SS threaded rod. Drilled right thru the swim platform and out the bottom. I cut out a portion of the SeaDek slightly smaller than the bracket, and then mounted a plate to shim...

    1978 sea nymph wrs16 restoration

If you filled the boat up with water to look for leaks, and the boat was on the trailer, better check the trailer because the extra weight may have compromised it. Don't drive it until you do. If you intend to ADD a subdeck that wasn't there before, don't do it because you will undoubtedly...

    Jack plates???

I can't answer your question, but I have other comments. If your are concerned about being period correct, a jack plate would not do it. If you want to show and have the boat judged it would also be a problem. Mercury makes a 40 HP short shaft 4-stroke outboard. That's the largest for them...

Why do deep cycle batteries seem to lose charge so quick?

I still pull the batteries out of the boats and lawn tractors, etc., and charge them monthly in the basement. One exception - an old classic car. It sits in the garage and never gets charged unless the car gets driven. I leave it in just in case we see a nice Winter day with the roads clear...

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

Once on Lake Erie we were fishing in a glass like calm and the seas got to 5 footers before I could get the anchor up and stowed. lake Ontario has its own set of problems. Waves aren't usually too bad on the US shoreline, but a slight change in wind can cause the lake to "turn over", resulting...

Why do deep cycle batteries seem to lose charge so quick?

Hahahaha. Back then I was sittin next to Grandpa at the helm, so my guess is that I'm probably older than you are.

Why do deep cycle batteries seem to lose charge so quick?

That was true in 1952, but modern battery technology has made that fact obsolete.

    What am I missing here?

I thought the "book" said to remove prop, grease splines, etc. as part of the annual maintenance. It should have been easily detected. I assumed the hub and washer were simply removed before the pic was taken. If they were not installed in the first place, wouldn't the prop have waddled and...

    Fixer Upper

Early MFGs were extremely rot prone. Many didn't last very long. The company recognized that and made major changes in hull construction. All wood was eliminated sometime in the 1960's I believe. If the boat in question is truly a 1970's model, my guess is that its all glass and other than...

Why do deep cycle batteries seem to lose charge so quick?

Sounds to me like there's nothing wrong. If they drop below 12 in 2 weeks or don't reach 12.7 after charging, then you know the battery needs to be replaced.
