    Piranha composite modular props

So what exactly does this mean? I’m looking for performance reviews not anecdotal comments on what makes you vomit..... so you don't like the way a composite prop looks?

    Rip Seven Marine?

That sucks, those were some really awesome outboards with some crazy hp, and unique cowling designs. Seeing an off shore boat with a few of those on the back was always a treat to be honest. Hearing them run was even better.

    Shift Interrupter problems

Did you go through the entire shift cable adjustment procedure? @achris has a great tutorial that I use every year on YouTube. The barrel to end of cable adjustments are critical. Good luck.

I found one leak (there may be more)

MarineTex is a great product, but prep is key like @alldodge stated. It needs to be completely dry, sanded, wiped with acetone, then given time to cure. Using a small piece of aluminum as a patch over the hole would increase the strength of the repair.

    Outdrive Alignment

The gimbal bearing will move slightly in the casting but it’s not what causing the alignment tool to slide in or out hard. The motor mounts need to be adjusted either up or down depending on the marks you see on the tool. Put a light coat of grease on the stepped down portion of the tool. Insert...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I did in essence the same thing. It works out quite well. It’ll still be little off, but you can use a scribe to get the 1/4” clearance you need for proper bedding.

1980 citation 17’ new floor and stringers

You really don’t want to screw directly into the stringer since you create a path for water to infiltrate. If you do use screws, you install cleats to the side of the stringer, then glue and screw into those. Use coated deck screws, but dip them in resin, then cover up the countersink with...

    Piranha composite modular props

Yeah, 3 replacement blades for the piranha is close to the cost of an aluminum prop anyway. Lol.

Free Boat, This thing is a badboy!

Looks good. What exactly is that foam you are getting? I’ve never seen that here in the US. Then again I wasn’t necessarily looking, ha ha.

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

I think that’s a great idea, but might be good to organize those thoughts into separate threads. Like one specific for home improvements. Another for small mechanical projects. Another for machining/ welding/ fabrication. Something like that to keep things more organized.

1980 citation 17’ new floor and stringers

Welcome to IBoats. Looks like a nice open bow. Should be a fun project. I use exterior grade plywood for stringers and the rest of the structural components. The plywood standing on end is stronger than dimensional lumber. Properly encapsulated it’ll last several decades. You are referring to...

Maxum boat with Force 125hp outboard.

Be prepared for a rotten structure and transom. Boats of this era can be pretty ugly below deck. Foam is most likely soaked and rotted stringers. Looks like nice boat on the outside, albeit a definite project.

    Piranha composite modular props

Where I mainly boat, the limestone can sneak up on ya. A small strike is a new prop. With these, you can replace individual blades, and have different pitches. They have a design that they claim to be more efficient and reduces cavitation. The price is about the same as an aluminum prop. Curious...

    Steam Launch parts acquired

She looks great. You have a great weekend coming up in South Central PA. I’ll be hitting Raystown Lake on Saturday. Should be close to 70 both days. Good luck on your launch.

    Piranha composite modular props

Anyone have any experience with these good, bad, or indifferent? Looks like a pretty neat concept, and easily repairable. Curious for feedback. Mercruiser Alpha 1 outdrive.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

My Chaparral is not full width either. The transom glass is thick enough on its own for properly Encapsulated 3/4” plywood. The outdrive requires the double thick plywood to get close to the 2” to 2-1/4” Thickness required. The 3/4” single layer is fine for mounting tabs, depth finders etc to...

    Crooked or warped transom

Hey there GSX, looking good. Any gaps in bonds to the hull can be filled with 1/4” chop reinforced thickened resin, called hairy peanut butter. Then tabbed with 1708 once all the nuns are smoothed over. To answer the previous question, all bare wood should be wrapped, (encapsulated), in...

'65 Lyn Craft Seabreeze 1500 Sport Runabout

Great progress. Simply using thickened polyester resin has no strength and can crack. Make sure to add some 1/4” chopped strands to it for strength. Epoxy can be thickened without strands as it’s plenty strong on its own.

    Restoration 1984 Scarab I 21.5'

@tpenfield I’m curious too. That would create a “lid” for the pour in foam cavities, and provide a good base for the cap. You can definitely save some money using exterior grade plywood and polyester resin, especially if you’re lucky enough to be able to source it locally. Very nice progress on...
