Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I haven't been able to do much work due to some key players in my department being out on medical leave. Frustrating that I have a bunch of vacation saved for this boat, but can't use it. I guess that's life. I did manage to get a little tabbing done. I have one more layer to do on the deck.

How not to restore a Chaparral 1900SL Sport

I guess maybe this can't be considered a restoration. I'm not sure what you call it... in any event, tub surround is made for bathrooms, not boats. Ironically enough I found this gem, (almost same boat as mine) 3/4 mile from my house. The boat is definitely rotten. I poked the drain hole that...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I have a little fiberglass work left to do, but just wasn't into it today. Painted the inside of the bow seat boxes. Also installed the wye pipe. Only had a few hours to work, so I'm glad I got this much done.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

First chore of the day..... Yeah, when I realized the spar urethane I bought was water based.....back to Lowes to get the right stuff. Then sealed all the wood and edges of the bench I made. This old timers wood sealer did work nice. I worked on the gimbal housing next. New hydraulic lines...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Ok, almost forgot the hole for the new speakers I am adding. Also filled all screw holes. I'm liking how this turned out.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I have two more pieces of wood to cut and I'll be pretty satisfied with the bench. I went into my enclosed trailer and retrieved a couple vinyl pieces for a mock up. I wanted to make sure any trimming I need to do is outside of the boat. Waterproofing, and painting up next.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Installed cleats to hold down the last deck piece. Pink wire finally came so I worked on routing the sender wires and installed the fuel pick-up. Installed a new anti-siphon valve for good measure. One more last pic of the tank and stringers before closing it up for good. And this subject is...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Second layer of roving on the thin spots. Finished bedding the top of the bow seat base. Cut the 8" hole for the fuel tank pick-up access cover. I have also been scratching my head as to the hole I made in the deck for the fuel lines. It was really bugging me that this was a place water could...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Well, according to my 1990 Chaparral brochure, I could very well be sitting on a gold mine my friends. Not only did the factory hand lay roving, but I did as well. I needed to beef up the area around the second chine. This area was so thin, you could see the back side of the gelcoat through the...

Here's to hoping that's the last of the fiberglass supplies.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Thanks for the kind words guys...I'm definitely liking the gelcoat. I mentioned that yesterday I cut the final deck piece out. Well after a little trimming I got it to sit close. I still have to install a pink fuel sender wire and fuel line. I need to cut the hole for the snap on cover that's...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Lots done today. I tabbed inside my bow seat bases, what a PITA. It's hard to keep the respirator on straight when your head is upside down and stuffed in a seat base. I got my gimbal bearing flipped and greased and my trim and limit senders installed. I measured and cut the last section of...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

A little more tabbing completed. Got the deck tabbed to the bow seat base, and the ends done.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Got a little bit more bedding done on the insides of my bow seat base. Also a little fairing with thickened resin. I also received the last trim hose I was waiting on so decided to work on the gimbal housing a little. The mechanic the PO was using must have liked to ensure his customers came...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Had a couple hours tonight after work to get the ends of my bow seat bases completed. I cut these out a day ago. First I Did some final scribing and trimming on the wood. I added cleats to attach the panels. The cleats got a drink of resin as did the edges of the panels. I added 1/4" UHMW...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

All cleaned up.....cleats installed, cut edges given a drink of slowkicking resin, final adjustments, glued and screwed. Screws covered with left over hairy PB.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Finished up the tabbing on the bow seatbase. That was more of a PITA than the first tabbing. It's hard not to wear the resin when you're tabbing in confined spaces. Once that was all done and kicking I started laying out the top for the seat base. I decided to make it two pieces so it's easier...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

One of the other things I did yesterday while waiting for resin to kick was to sand the gelcoat on the transom. This gelcoat is so thick that it never levels. The end result looks very much like an anti-slip surface. Unfortunately this is not the look I'm going for on the transom. Before...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Got a lot done today. I love days off! I assembled the three bow pieces I cut last weekend. It was hard to keep everything straight and level. Scissors jacks, c-clamps, welding clamps and angle iron, oh my! I kept all the wood off the deck 1/4" with UHMW tabs. This way I can make sure I get a...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Close up of the transom gelcoat. I fiberglassed and gel coated the inside of the keyhole and cutout for the steering arm.
