Alpha 1 Gen 2 - gear lube in idle relief ports

Do you have a lube monitor bottle? If it's allowing water in the lube will milk up in the bottle so you will then know something needs to be done. Has it sat all winter? Sometimes seals seem to get better with use and warm weather. Might just see what happens after a few outings.

Alpha 1 Gen 2 - gear lube in idle relief ports

How much is leaking? Is it pooling on the ground?

Alpha 1 Gen 2 - gear lube in idle relief ports

Yeah good question. I'm trying to envision it myself. Are you talking about the oring where the vertical shaft on the lower goes into the upper?

    Bellows Water Detector - Retrofit?

The bellows on my A1G2 were last replaced in 2007 and 900 hours ago. The exhaust bellows has now given up the ghost. I removed it to inspect the driveshaft bellows. Still looks good to me. I don't see any cracks. I replaced the exhaust bellows with the tube. Always trailered and 100%...

    Boat Tarp Material?

I bet you're right in steamy FL, good point. In KY mine never did, at least for the 3 years it was stored that way. I did have to make an hour long round trip a couple of time to rake snow off of it before busted my snap on.

    Boat Tarp Material?

Are you talking about replacing factory snap on covers or just something to throw over it? If stored outdoors 24/7/365 you need two covers. Use the factory setup, that hopefully use support poles, and buy cheap tarps from Walmart/Harbor Freight to go over that. Bungee the cheap ones around...

    Boat Trailer Bunk Carpet

What are your bunk supports made of? Mine are steel and they looked like this after 15 seasons. I replaced the bunks and painted them with Chassis Saver. Bottom line...do not sit the supports on carpet that, during boating season, never dries out.

Voting for 2023 Splash of the Year!

I threw some love at the bass boat because I figured the center console would win lol. Great job!

1998 Crownline 202br engine compartment access

Yes it's a sad state of affairs. You'll need to take a good hard look at what's involved in disassembling the area surrounding the engine. Mine isn't too bad but bad enough I never want another one, especially at 64 years old. Remove the engine cowling to expose the threaded stud it mounts...

    Alpha Gen 2 Swivel Shaft

I have owned my A1 G2 for 20 years and put 1600 hours on it. My gimbal ring was replaced around 700 hours and it was done by drilling into the sides of the gimbal housing at the top. So now I have the frankenstein plugs on each side. This was done because it had too much play, more than I...

    Rev 4 to something else

I suspect the stainless hub is for a high horsepower racing setup. If you have enough money to go racing you're not worried about saving internal parts you're worried about spinning a prop in competition.

    Engine Overspeed?

I rarely run WOT but I have heard my 5.0 MPI reach the limiter twice in the 19 years I've owned it. As Fun Times said right around 5150 I heard a somewhat faint beeping. That was all she had and conditions had to be perfect to reach the limit. Quickly backed it off.

    Rev 4 to something else

You're ahead of most of us here but I'll jump in with some comments. Hard to believe a big 4 blade won't back up well. What's the deal with that? Why do you say old Mirage vs Mirage Plus? Sounds like you have prior experience with the Mirage line. You say guardian do you mean rev limiter...

    Mercruiser 5.0 starting problem

Sounds like a dead battery. Even though things light up doesn't mean your battery has enough juice to turn the engine over. Recommend eliminating this first. Is this an MPI?

    Boat listing to left

Steering wheel yes but he's concerned with listing. I'm not sure they correlate.

    Boat listing to left

I wondered the same but he states it floats level at rest.

    Boat listing to left

A right hand prop will naturally twist a boat to port. This is why driver positions are on the right.

    Boat listing to left

Not trying to question your knowledge but you state the hull is dry and no extra weight. How was this determined?

    Boat listing to left

In boating terms a hook refers to a downward turn in the bottom of a boat usually near the transom. Most common in outboard aluminum boats that are trailered. Especially those sold on trailers that are too short and do not support the transom. It can, however, occur in glass boats also...
