My drive was leaking at the Oring and pumping water into the shift cavity. I never knew it until I took the big plastic cover off the top of the engine and could see it coming out of the lower cable..
You might be able to add or subtract resistance on the sensor by adding a simple resistor somewhere in the circuit. The electronic wizards around here could verify...
You got to get your mind right! It's not a nightmare but a challenge..if you have some left handed bits available they may even get it out in one piece.. luck!
If you are successful getting the mess out you will need to chase the threads with an appropriate tap.. there is no stress on this fitting so test the new fitting and if the threads grab then install with perfect seal so you don't have this situation again..
It's essentially a pipe fitting and you twisted the head off. I would drill it out with a smaller bit stepping up in size until it's thin enough to pic out assuming it's brass...
