Well I've swapped a few, I remember putting in solid lifters in a 283 Chevy. Got a few more revs and a few less miles but it was fun..

I just gave a 27ft oday to a young fella last weekend. I didn't want the expense of a total restore, but he's 19 years old and thinks he can live on it and bring it to life. He rented a slip for 200 bucks VS the thousand he was paying for an apartment. He's got the time!

If you're sure of the barrel adjustment then the cable itself is stretched beyond it's limit. You may be able to fudge the barrel adjustment and get it working..
You guys are debating orange VS. orange, boundary layers of steel are porous, like Andy said. .."it's just a matter of time" eventually the boundaries become the foundation..
If you have a competitive nature I think you will be disappointed in either. Really depends on how you want to use it..if it were me I would finish your class and then hang out at the docks and crew on a few different boats..
