    Moisture meters & used boats

Hammer 🔨 and if necessary a drill will tell you more than a meter in the hands of someone that has never used one . Bottom paint , how long it's been out of water and a few other variables will affect your readings. www.yachtsurvey.com. has a write up on them. Punch in Moisture Meter in...

    91 ranger Comanche NEED HELP

Look for soft spots on your " floor " . Put motor down ,stand on it and bounce it to see if transom flexes . There interpretation of not using wood may be different than yours or mine. Floor is made out of wood I bet vs a nonskid glass liner.

    Live well

Your kidding me ... The check valves are made of bronze , located in the boat and are operated a few times a season. Every inboard boat built in the last 50 years has them. Marine growth is not a factor , corrosion from not being used is., and that means the check valve is stuck in whatever...

    Live well

That's too bad. Everyone of my through hulls ( Boston Whaler and Luhrs ,grand total of 18 check valves on the two boats ) that are below or at the waterline has one. Drain scuppers should be at least 2-3" above waterline and have nothing to do with a live well intake. OP was concerned about...

    New Project Sunbird 170 Crosair

I get the whole picture and if you read it as written , the OP ask for the specs on a " Sunbird 170 crosair 1994 outboard engine." Now maybe if people used correct punctuation or actually worded the post correctly the replies might be more on point .

    New Project Sunbird 170 Crosair

Doesn't matter how you spell it , Mercury's or a Johnyrude was it for outboard motor selection . Yamaha / Zukes / Honda were all pretty much not part of a package deal for 16-21' generic boats during that time period. Any specific questions can be asked here or any of the relevant sub forums on...

    New Project Sunbird 170 Crosair

No such thing as a 1994 Crosair outboard motor ,so there's that. They made engines back in the 40"s or 50's and Scott Atwater bought them out. Serial number might help. Possible the cover was branded as a Corsair , but that's not who made it.

    Live well

You could " possibly sink " any boat that has a through hull fitting, that's why there should be a check valve on every one. The hoses that are connected to the fittings are what fail , check condition of your double hose clamps on each end along with the hose itself. If your not going to use it...

Engine smell in cabin when boat is tarped for the week (350 i/o)

Take a pressure washer after dousing everything with Purple cleaner and let er rip. On a side note ,what the heck is engine smell if gas is not involved. Of the 10 inboard - I/Os I've owned I cannot remember ever having a engine " smell " other than gas .

Engine smell in cabin when boat is tarped for the week (350 i/o)

I would pressure test the tank. You should be getting ZERO smell of gas , period. Vapors are what cause explosions and you have that going on.
