    "71" chrysler 70hp distributor questions

Clean the rotor cam gently, just to get rid of dirt at the surface. Put a very thin coat of grease at the cam surface and clean the rotor button, contact terminals for the high tension wires, no grease for them. The distributor pully is spinning with the same speed as the flywheel soo no need of...

The only way you can see the cooling water is the "nose" att the leg. I mist of water should be present there.

what is this part and where to get one?

It looks like it is okey. Nothing wrong with it. As I said before, from you video I do not see anything wrong. It seams like it is working properly. When starting you have to pull the cord rapidly in the beginning with this Bendix gear typ recoil starter.

what is this part and where to get one?

Check the pic for part number 43-803642T at Crowley Marine. The spring should slid in and suit in the groove at the bottom of it. If that groove is gone the gear will not work properly. In your video it locks like it is working properly !!!!

    Force 125 88’ won’t run

Yes, if you set the idle with the muffs you have no water back pressure to the exhaust and no load. The proper way is to set the idle and the air fuel mixture in water and in gear, BUT idle 1200 rpm with muffs and the air fuel mixture screws out 1-1 1/4 turn you are going to start it and idle in...

    Force 125 88’ won’t run

The idle screw is on the bottom of the tower shaft, it rests against the block. The screws you are talking about are the air fuel mixture screws. The air fuel mixture screws are set from 1 turn out from lightly seated to about 1,5 turn or even more. They have to be tune individually, see post by...

what is this part and where to get one?

Yes those groves are for the pin, BUT there should be a grove in the Bendix gear where the spring should suit. It should be at the bottom of the Bendix gear (under it).

    Force 125 88’ won’t run

If you do not be able to get below 3000 rpm at idle something is not set right. Put it in gear would not make it to go down from 3000 rpm to 1200 rpm, no way. Have you adjust the throttle pick up point properly? Is the idle screw back of all the way?

    Force 125 88’ won’t run

I have not join this thread yet until now, soo no mad at you. Not at all. I Think you mix me up with racerone. Set the timing by follow FrankA:s sticker in the top of this forum. As topgun3690 says you time these engine at WOT, the timing at idle will be what it will be. Set the idle speed by...

what is this part and where to get one?

There should be a grove in the Bendix gear #2 (white thing in the pic) where the spring #3 should suit in. Is the grove still in place or is it gone? When pulling the cord the spring will make the gear to move up as the spring is hold in place by #4 and the pin #10 will slide in the grove in the...

    1975 chrysler 4.9 wont start

If the flywheel key is shared the time when the spark appears will be wrong. It would not fire even if it has good spark. Set the points to 020 in (0,50 mm) that is the right gap. You can check for good spark and that it can jump 1/4 in, 5/16 or 3/8 are even better (6-9 mm) by putting a wire in...

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

I have never replaced those if they was not broken, but I am stingy. BTW I have never had a crank case leak that made any issue depending on those crank case seals either. But no bad ide to replace them.

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

Yes, the connecting rod will need some play. This is what I have had in all my restoration when using aftermarket pistons such as WSM, PRO V and Wiseco pistons. Almost all those calls for this wrist pin kit WP29-1.

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

That wrist pin kit is the one you replace the old thicker spacers and needles. It looks right assembled.

1990 force 50hp driveshaft spline boot and keeper

The rubber boot and the retainer are not necessary. Apply small amount of marine grade grease at the splines, no grease at the top of the driveshaft. This will keep the splines out from rust, the purpose of the boot and the retainer is the same. Pull off the LU every three or four years and add...

88' Force 85hp lower unit oil viscosity

I have worked with outboards in 25 years, not for living but in free time with all different brands such as Merc, OMC, Chrysler/Force and all Japanese and generally you always fill the gear case with oil from the bottom (drain hole) and up until oil weeps out at the (level) vent hole. OEM...
