Info on Mercruiser 0A494867 170Hp engine.

If the boat is nice, and the engine runs good, it's worth it. 4.3L replaced the 3.7L and is what the boat would have come with if it were built after 1990 A good tune up wouldn't hurt it if it runs and does not overheat... The cooling system on a 3.7L needs to be kept up to 100% all the time...

Info on Mercruiser 0A494867 170Hp engine.

Yes, it is an alternator, but not in the traditional sense, which is why he couldn't locate it

Info on Mercruiser 0A494867 170Hp engine.

It's not really an alternator on that engine. It is but it isn't. It's basically an outboard stator on the front of the engine. There are alternator kits for it as it's really horrible the way they came from the factory

    Trailer tires dryrotting again

Well, beads are ~ok~, we have them at my shop for an as needed basis. If you put those cheap tires on a balancer, you'll find they are out of round, terrible runout and would take a bunch of weight to balance traditionally. You won't notice as much harmonics on a truck as you will a car.. We...

    Steering conversion

Well, they are partly right, as converting the motor to remote controls will be a chore, BUT, finding the stick steering lever and any mounting hardware should be right off their shelves. The Craig Cats have not changed much over the years

    After market carb kits

I was forced to buy chinese kits for my Honda CB 500 Four as Kehin and Honda both stopped making kits . The brass bits are junk. 2 gaskets and the needle valves are all that I could use.

    Trailer tires dryrotting again

I don't think this analogy makes any sense when you put it into the tire world. You can find a 17" car tire for $40, but it's not going to last, it's not going to balance well. Just look at the traction ratings on that tire. It might be branded something like Westlake, Nika or Waterfall.. I...

    Trailer tires dryrotting again

Cooper tires are hot garbage these days.. I work at a local tire shop and we quit carrying or even selling any Cooper or their other brands. Out of round, garbage. We were sending back 1 out of every 8 not to long ago due to defect.. Switched to Falken tires and some Kumho. Nicer prices...

    Fuel hose lifespan?

Any fuel line used in a boat must be non permeable, which is where the grey comes in, as it's a protective layer. Regular fuel hose shouldn't be used. It really does not matter that much, but the codes are there for a reason.. There are exemptions that I'm not thinking of, but I can't...

1989 Starcraft Islander 221V repair and repower

I've never had trouble finding parts... Old style nail gimbal pins are technically NLA at this point but still found many places. It would take a machine shop no time at all to whip up a set of pins if SHTF and you can't find them

    Used 40hp two stroke value?

I like the Tohatsu engines BUT, the 20-35hp 2cyl Johnnyrudes from '76?-'01ish are pretty much bullet proof. They changed very little. You are gaining 10 'real' hp and 5hp as stickered
