Expect to be buying a new transducer but I second this

MerCruiser 3.0 Runs Poorly As It Warms Up

Would think if compression is an issue OP would experience the symptoms immediately upon staring the engine, not something that gets progressively worse with run time Never have seen a warped head on a GM 3.0/2.5. Along with suggestions in posts #2 and #3 you should check the filter in the...

1981 120 Mercruiser idles rough when hot

Coil getting hot could be a failing sensor assy, especially seeing the erratic timing jump when the engine runs poorly I've had similar experiences others have posted about with pertronix. They work for a while, then they don't. Avg. failures I've seen is about five seasons

My turn with a old boat that has a sudden loss of ALL battery power in a 45 year old boat.

Heat shrink tubing is the best addition to battery cable ends. Manufacturing your own is easy, just need a suitable crimper for the lugs/ends.

    1971 3.0 Liter Carb Question..

Check/set idle timing prior to adjusting the idle speed and air mixture. Once that's all dialed in you can check it again in the water under load at idle speeds Full rpm range lake test only after the idle issues are resolved

De-winterizing Mercruiser 5.0 mpi with heat exchange

I think you are referring to fresh water, e.g.what comes out of the faucets in galley/head as raw water Raw water is water that is pumped on-board using the surrounding water (lake, river, ocean, etc) the boat is floating in. Engines use raw water for the cooling systems and some pumps are used...

1981 120 Mercruiser idles rough when hot

Most aftermarket electronic ignition upgrade components work quite well out of the box however I've seen a few fail within a week or two of install. I've seen some behave exactly as you describe, work great first 20-30 mins but when fully warm/up to temp they start to fail. Would be high on my...

    Boat taking on water !!!

At first glance I'd say the garboard drain is the opening in the far left of the picture posted #1. But all I'm looking at is a photo outside the hull Agree with others here about live well intake/drain fittings/hoses, notorious for leaks and in some cases near impossible to easily reach for...

2000 Volvo Penta 5.7 Gfi with no spark

Might just be shadows/tape residue but a couple wires looked corrupted Focus on gaining 12v (+) and ground throughout the harness. Start at the battery and work your way along +/- circuits

2000 Volvo Penta 5.7 Gfi with no spark

I think dodge was asking to see the diagnostic cables but I'm wondering how much of the engine wiring harness has had the tape removed and for how long The pics show at least one burnt wire and one clipped wire. There's some harness connections disabled throughout the gallery as well. Granted...

De-winterizing Mercruiser 5.0 mpi with heat exchange

Can't tell from the pictures posted #1 if the water heater is plumbed for a "preheater" or heater core for engine coolant to heat the freshwater in the water heater tank If the water heater is plumbed so as described above hopefully the winterize included a flush of that accessory portion of...

    1986 Mercruiser 260 Advice

On some 260 models the dipstick is accessed from the front stbd area of the engine assy. Painted black so as to visually blend in nicely with surrounding areas. Later/other models mcm/mie used a yellow colored pull end so as for quick identification

1981 120 Mercruiser idles rough when hot

There should be little to no play in the distributor shaft, fairly easy to check with the cap/rotor removed. Just try to wiggle it. As stated earlier the repair in this case is to install new bushings Did this issue arise after the electronic ignition was installed?

New canvas bow cover rolling at edges, solutions?

The snaps ought to be close enough to the edge/hem of the cover to keep it relatively flat. That along with the proper tension applied with the tent pole should allow a majority of the water to shed and not collect much if at all Pictures are fun to look at in situations like this

4.3gi no start new ICM. how to set base timing?

At cranking speed the raw water pump does not create enough draw for water supplied through muffs to first get to it let alone pump through the entire cooling system and enter the exhaust portion of the manifold. Even if you force fed the cooling system with city water pressure there's little...

Stumbling at Cruising Speed - OMC 5.8L

Ground the coil secondary wire and turn the engine over with the ignition switch on. Observe dwell reading and adjust accordingly. Once it's all back together and running check dwell again. If it's in spec, great. If not adjust accordingly until correct then set the idle timing to spec

Mounting a gen 1 alpha to a gen 2 housing.

Ive never attempted this but I'd be leery of an alpha 1 drive mounted to a gen ii bell housing. As stated you'd need swap at least the shift shaft. Might work but I wouldn't trust it for long If I had the parts and time I'd try an alpha 1 bell housing in place of the gen ii. Still wonky but...
