Boat mooring in rocky areas (aluminum boat)

Dunno' about a "yacht" but they do it on the shores here in TN too. Rocky edges of these lakes, and yet they do park the houseboats on 'em. I don't anchor on shore very often, but I've found places to nose the Bayliner into and get on shore. Here's a fiberglass boat on Powell:

Stainless Steel? Anyone know what make, model, year this is?

Typically the transom on a boat like that is metal, with wood on both sides. But not usually across the entire stern. That one looks like there's wood all across the back. Can you see the metal on the inside of the transom? You've had it on the water and it doesn't leak, right?

Stainless Steel? Anyone know what make, model, year this is?

@Jdog3295 - do a search for "Elgin Stainless Steel Boat" and see if that gets you in the ball field. Look that one over carefully : not sure what's going on with the transom in the photos. Could just be a coating, but it looks weird to me. Welcome aboard.

    Build a Barge Workshop

Nothing you can see in terms of progress on the 'toon. We've been collecting some parts, grabbing hardware and figuring out painting the fence before we start reassemble. So, not much to see. But I mentioned the "pontoon-pause" to work on FIL's Mercury Comet. We wrapped up the brake rebuilt...

    Newby to boating

That's a good lookin' boat. I've never heard of that one before. Definately not an ocean goer :) That's a loaded question. What are you planning on doing mostly? What type of seas are you typically going to be in? How are you keeping the boat (trailer / mooring)? And what is "affordable" to...

    Newby to boating

Welcome aboard: I'm not familiar with the boat you're referencing. Assuming that it's a typical competition style ski boat, I can't imagine it will perform well in the ocean. Maybe some more protected bays and inlets it might do okay, but not big water. Wrong style boat for that sort of thing.

Adding a GPS unit to a bowrider

I've got the same unit as JAS ^^^ but I have mine mounted on a RAM mount just under the dash. The screen peeks out to the lower left of the wheel - easier to see than it sounds.

    Tahoe Q5i VHF radio

Also depends on where you're boating. Bigger waters (ocean, Great Lakes, etc.) may want a little higher line of sight on the antenna when off shore. On the lakes I run here in TN, the handheld is about as good because the hills kill line of sight anyway.

What year is my Sea King

Serial number starts with '61 - and that's as good a guess as any for the year the boat was made. Fits the style. What information are you trying to get specifically? Nice little boat. Welcome aboard.

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

We had a goat out on Priest for quite a while. I haven't seen him in years, but he was on the island over by Poole's Knob.

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

That's actually Hole in Wall Island on Percy Priest. Water is 80' deep where we are just off the shore. You can get the boat up the channel just a little before it shallows up on you. I've paddled through to the other side, which is kind of fun. People anchor off this island all summer and the...
