    Any gear. But when installing. in F That way you can turn the prop and the splines align and the drive goes back in easily.

    IF???? you drain the gear oil??? make sure you fill it from the right place!!! They fill from the side of the drive about 1/2 way from the top down. If not filled properly, the drive will self destruct and cost lots of $$$

    You try swapping the coils around? These coils can be bad but in all the years I've worked on these motors, I've only found a couple to be bad. The trigger has very thin wires that breaks under the shrink wrap at the connector, try gently tugging on the wire and see if it comes apart...

    Get the FACTORY manual. for a 1988 The huge backfire is probably the coils were backwards or there was an over fueled situation(flooded). Did you bother to do a compression test? These 2 cyl. motor can start and run on 1 cyl. not great but they do run.

    Tools required for lower unit reseal

    Just use a sealer on the mating surfaces of the new seals. Use grease or something like Anti-seize on the bolts. Then do a pressure test. You can find U-tube video's on how to make a pressure tester.

    Always include all the #s when asking about your motor? 2000 4.3 GL or GS There's 47 different 4.3L listed in the Volvo parts. Like Bondo said, the filter can be on the top or down low?

    Check the impeller first. Then remove the riser(in pic) and check for blockage. You'll need to remove the hose and inspect the end for crud blocking the holes. FYI, the 5.7L with the 4bbl. is a 260 I think yours is a 5.0 4bbl. 225 (I could be wrong?)

    Broke off Starter bolt in the block

    Like the last two posts said, once the head of the bolt is gone, it might just twist out, done it twice. There enough room to drop the starter? Even dropping 2 inches gives you enough room to get to the bolt.
