Hi all:
I'll get some photos up later, but for the moment I have a couple of basic "where do I start from" questions:
Background: I picked up my great-grandfathers Johnson 7.5 and brought it home this weekend. It's been in a family garage for several years and hasn't been started for just...
Re: OMC Stern Drive Identify
Go HERE and click on parts / select "STERN DRIVE" in the drop down, and navigate to your year and HP. Once you get there, you need the number off of your engine (not the stern drive itself). Mine's located on the starboard side of the engine, on a tag:
tucked back...
Re: propeller won't spin
Muffs - - you need water runnin' through the system when you have it going in the driveway.
Take the propeller off, engage the drive. Does the shaft move? If so, you may be dealing with a spun prop hub. If the shaft ain't movin' then you have a bigger problem in a...
Re: The passing of Don S
Don was a NASCAR fan, and as I gather a Chevy guy (or at least anything but Toyota). So, a little Photo-Choppin' in Don's honor:
Someone asked if I could do it, and it was fun to play a little like he would.
Re: The passing of Don S
I'm at a complete loss ...
I feel like I just learned to speak "Don" a few months ago. He could be so abrupt that I always had this mental image of the classic "grumpy old guy" tapping away at his computer. Then he and I got clownin' around a bit with Photoshop and...
Re: 175 OMC won't turn over.
It comes in here...
Angle of the picture is a little weird, but you can see the screen Bruce is talkin' about.
Getcha' a manual though ... you're right. You're gonna' need it. ;)
Re: Steering pulls hard to starboard at speed.
Do you have a tension knob on your helm? And, is it the original (had a heading dial on the steering wheel on many of 'em). Before I changed out my system, I was pretty loose 'cuz the rack itself was getting loosened up.
On my drive, there is a...
Another SHIP caught fire. This time Royal Caribbean.
So, is it just that the news is more accessible or are there an increase in problems? The ships have become more complex too. I don't know if that might be a factor?
Re: couple questions on my elec. shift
Hey Viper - a coupla' quick points for you:
Treat the drive and engine a little separate at the moment. Have you started the system and tried shifting? Everything works (in a general sense) to move you forward, neutral and reverse? If not - don't try...
Re: Just bought a 165 OMC
Welcome aboard:
You've got an OMC electric Shift Stringer outdrive. You need to either submerge the drive (like completely) or utilize a hose adapter on the the trunions like so:
Muffs will not work.
Re: Would it be a bad idea to fish in the rain in a boat?
Can't tell you how many of these I've made over the years:
Even in rowboats with no drain hole, I've been able to fish all day in the rain with no problem.
Re: OMC Sterndrive
The engine should have a tag somewhere (unless it's been removed). Mine is located on the Starboard side, toward the back mount. Like so:
You can't quite see the tag well, but you can get an idea of location.
Re: Kinda hope Ford goes broke
... Kinda' found these two posts funny (no offense guys) because of what was on my screen:
I don't really get pop-ups, and kinda' thought these two banners were normal. Anyway - I kinda' like Ford, myself.
