Johnson 90 Oops it did it again

Are you sure your motor used up 3 gallons going to the boat launch ? The Choke valve would need to be almost closed for that usage to happen. Check all of your Choke linkage and Thermostatic Coil for correct action when cold and hot.

    6hp 1971 Evinrude, worth getting?

At that age ? Use it until it fails. We have brand new motors waiting for brand new parts. Mix the correct oil and oil ratio. Carry a NEW correctly gapped sparkplug and sparkplug wrench. Enjoy reliability. As you tow a new boat & motor to shore. It happens.

Johnson 90 Oops it did it again

Anybody else have a sinking float ? It would take 15 to 30 minutes to fully kill the motor. Some are really odd balls. Both Varnished cork floats. And the molded foam floats. Fun days. Using the oars for over 1 hour. :)(y) Reminds me to check the oars & refinish them.

    Engine alignment

Without real FACTORY FIT tolerances ? I would be happy with that. Grease as specified in called out places. I lubricate all male and female grooves VERY carefully. With a stiff paint brush. Pushing grease into all the bottoms of the grooves. I do remove the excess amounts.

    Yamaha Sterndrive 5.7l Overheating

What did you use to get the accurate 200 F temperature readings ? The temperature instruments may be going bad also. If truly 200 F exhaust ? You will see STEAM coming out of the exhaust water when idling. Been there. Few rocks & impellor parts ?? How can a thermostat handle that stuff & work ?

    This boat… always something…popping today

Definite POPPING sounds pretty steady ? I vote for lack of fuel at the higher power and flow rate needed. Could even be a change in the timing at higher rpms........Does the popping sound also happen in NEUTRAL and high rpms ? I noticed you did not say you changed the sparkplugs. Did they all...

    Stupid me, no oil

Not always. I used 2 stroke oil in my motors. Problem was It was for air-cooled 2 strokes. Black spark plugs in minutes. A fatal wearing out problem occurs when you use your Marine 2 stroke oil in air cooled machines. They need the higher temperature rated oil due to hotter temperatures in...
