    1981 Citation Marquis restoration...

I would not do the bottle/foam idea - just go back with regular foam. In case you or a loved one in the future decide to sell the boat. If I was buying a boat and saw a bunch of 20oz bottles foamed under the deck, I'd walk away. Honestly, glass laid over thin carboard tube isn't a bad idea -...

    1966 MFG Rebuild

Looks like thickened resin to me, or some other kind of adhesive. When demo'ing my boat, I found several things were stuck to the inside of the hull with an adhesive that reminded me of body filler. It was just a temporary adhesive to hold things in position until the glass was laid. I ground...

    Carb Needle condition / function

This. My carb is a 4-barrel, but I was having major running issues (stranded me 3 times requiring a tow at the beginning of the 2023 season), and it turned out to be my fuel pump putting out too much pressure, blowing the needle off the seat. I ended up having to install a fuel pressure...

Mercruiser 165's First Engine Align, Having Trouble

I would use the cherry picker to lift the front of the motor so it is floating. The rear of the engine will sit on the inner transom plate and pivot from there. This allows you to get alignment side to side really easy since the engine can swing some. Have one person man the cherry picker...

    1988 Lund pro v 1700 questions

They look like rivets. If so, you'll have to drill them out. Or just pull up the carpet around them.

What's the best wood to use for stringers replacement.

Sliding new wood in the fiberglass carcass of the original stringer isn't a good idea. Getting the sides of the new wood to bond with the inside of the old glass will be difficult. Without the glass and wood being tied together (unless the glass is VERY thick), your new wood won't properly...

    1988 Marlin needs windshield

Which boat wrecker did you try, and where are you located? Lanier Marine Liquidators in Dawsonville, GA has a ton of boats...that's where I'd try. Otherwise, you may be looking at finding something close and making it work. Taylor Made Boat Windshields may have something, but I hear they are...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Got all the suspension sanded, primed, and painted today as well. Hope to get it back together this weekend. I'll be replacing 2 of the shackle bolts due to wear and will be installing new shackle bushings.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

This is something I have been wanting to do. I think there is a CAT scale nearby. I'm curious how much weight I added with the rebuild. I think I was pretty heavy handed with the resin.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Friday, I got in my last boat ride of the season before putting the boat away for winter. That means project time. So Saturday, I pulled the axle and springs out from under the trailer to go through them and start installing electric trailer brakes. I got the axle cleaned up and welded on...

    Glastron Carlson cv-23

Post pics as you progress. I will show it to my brother to hopefully motivate him on his CV19 project. To add to what Scott said, take pics, take measurements, and make sketches of things as you de-rig and demo.

Marine Carpet Replacement > Anyone Familiar with Compass HB Marine Flooring?

A buddy has this in his boat and I cam confirm it is hot on the feet. He is going to go back to snap in carpet next year.

New to this world of boating and got my self in a pickle

Agree with Mr. Danforth - you're looking at a full gut and rebuild job. It's time to make the decision whether you junk / sell this one and try to find another boat, or if you want to commit to 12-24 months of a project that's going to cost at least a few grand and a couple hundred hours of...

    1968 surftamer

Nope, mine was just screwed through the 2 pieces of fiberglass. No backer wood. It's held up fine.

    1968 surftamer

Mine was put together with screws and not rivets. Just go back with screws.

    1974 Silverline Tri Hull

I don't want you to misunderstand - you don't cut a hole through that big, but rather grind a very shallow funnel around the hole, with the funnel being about 1" or so in diameter at the widest part. I would probably just leave the holes and enjoy the boat for what it is.

    1988 Javelin 366 Full Restoration

Yes. It's going to be easier to just get all the old wood out and out all new wood in, versus trying to work around some small pieces here and there that are left behind.

    1974 Silverline Tri Hull

If you want the repair to last, you'll have to grind out an area at least 1" diameter around each hole, lay in some CSM, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, fill, gelcoat, wet sand, and buff. If you just fill the hole as is, it won't last. Not trying to discourage you, just saying it's a lot of work...

    1988 Javelin 366 Full Restoration

Measure and sketch, then cut it all out. Either build a cradle, or measure hull widths every foot from bow to stern, then cut everything out. I used ratchet straps to pull my hull slightly back into shape before glassing new things in.
