    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Send it. The hull is probably so thick up there, I doubt you're adding any significant stress.

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

FYI I didn't gelcoat my deck where the carpet went down. I'm happy with my carpet here in my 3rd season. It's cool on the feet. I have walked in friends boats with EVA and snap-in weave/mat of a sililar light-grey color and both were much hotter on the feet. I do keep my boat parked under an...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Pretty sure I did 2x 1708 tabbing on the perimeter, 1x 1708 on the rest of the deck, then 1x 1.5oz CSM over all of it to smooth out seams and transitions and have a mostly flat floor.

Use PB. Adjustable viscosity. Adjustable cure time. Make it with or without reinforcement. Compatible with what your boat is built from. There's no real reason to use anything else!

You come to love the speed of polyester, especially once you learn how to control it.

Chopstran is clumpy. Is this an issue when putting on the regular fiberglass?

A chip brush has its place (with the bristles cut short and even), but I did 95% of my boat with a 4" mohair roller.

Idling in the trailer, or with the boat in the water? Are you getting water flowing into and out of each exhaust manifold and elbow?

new to me 97 ski sanger dlx 20 stringer movement near stern

I would do everything in polyester resin. Cheaper, works just fine, adjustable cure time, can apply gelcoat over it, it's what your boat is made of, so it's compatible.....the list goes on

new to me 97 ski sanger dlx 20 stringer movement near stern

Welcome to the forum. Honestly, 99% of folks on here are not going to recommend anything besides a full repair done the right way - its just the way this particular forum is. So, if you're looking for advice on a "just for the season" repair, you may not find it here. The wooden stringers in...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

I wouldn't waste my money or time trying to load empty caulking tubes. It'll be frustrating, messy, and cost more than the alternative. I highly recommend getting some Wilton 16" decorating bags - probably available at your grocery store. These work so much better than zip-lock bags with the...

That's about 3%....pretty stout. Surprised it didn't kick really fast on you.

Question/Advice: Fiberglass over old Fiberglass In Bilge Area.

THIS $34 grinder got me through my entire restoration, and despite how much fiberglass dust it ingested, it's still kicking. THIS $19 box of 40-grit flap discs is what I used. Don't forget the PPE you'll need - a MASK for $17 and FILTERS for $25. So, for $100 you can have the tools and and...

Question/Advice: Fiberglass over old Fiberglass In Bilge Area.

Yes it can be done. First you need to grind away all the loose / bad fiberglass. If you expose any rotten wood, you'll need to deal with that before putting new glass down. For grinding, I recommend 36-grit flap discs on an angle grinder. Besides removing old / bad glass, it also works great...

    1986 Mercruiser 260 Advice

My boat is a 1987 with a Mercruiser 260hp. See the picture below - red arrow points to where my oil dipstick is. It is at the front of the engine, amidst the pulleys and coolant hoses.

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Not sure I want to find out what winters are like up there, but you guys live in a beautiful part of the country! I've been up to Keuka and Cayuga in the past for both work and leisure.

    5.7 merc quadrajet idle

He is talking about the throttle plate - what you are talking about is the choke and the air doors. The throttle plates (butterflies) are down at the bottom of the carb. You can see the primary throttle plates if you open the choke and look below the venturis. You can see the secondary...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

I didn't have a template, fixture, or a special kind of saw. I just took a die grinder with a 1" drum sander on it and went to town - see HERE. I glassed over the wood I ground away afterwards, then gelcoated. In the link above, I had eyeballed it before installing the transom, but when...
