1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I'm trying to not spray, because that's gonna be a big mess. I do have that hardener already though from when I painted my gimbal housing.

    Q. Factory : 2022 Mercury 565 racing engine.) & ( Mercury 496 Mag H/O bravo one ) boat spd (Q).

It's physics - as you increase speed it takes more power to overcome the drag caused by the increased speed.

Thinking about using Rustoleum. @Reserector_ used it with good results.

    Maxum 17' carpet removal

If it works (and I don't think it will), you're going to have to use a TON of gelcoat to fill the carpet fibers, which I think will be cost prohibitive and it will add a lot of unnecessary weight. I would pull up what you can by hand then buy 3-4 boxes of cheap 40-grit flap discs for your angle...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

No worries! I got to thinking "maybe they galvanize all trailers before painting them to protect them". Appreciate your input, as if it were a galvanized trailer, I would have just painted it like normal.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

How can i tell if it's galvanized? I mean it's already been painted and other than where its rusted, that has lasted 35 years (it's original paint). I'm not planning to strip it other than the rusty areas.

mercruiser 140 low compression & cracked exhaust manifold

I paid $20 for an aluminum straight edge on Amazon. Dead flat. Just don't drop it or bang it into anything and it works well. Good cheap alternative to a steel straight edge.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Haven't thought about it being galvanized and needing special treatment. I was just going to clean up the rusty areas, sand the rest, prime, and paint. Is this not how it's done?

Maroon for the trailer. It's currently a combination if maroon and rust, lol.

Thanks! They are gonna make the trailer look so bad, haha. Hoping to paint it this summer.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

A multitool is king for demolition. I went with the Bauer one from Harbor Freight. Just buy the cheap blades - I found very little difference in the life of the blade when cutting fiberglass between a $20 blade and a $1.50 blade. I used a Black & Decker grinder I got on Amazon for under $30...

    1989 Celebrity 181BR Restoration

Agree. One other thing to consider is the relatively short life-span of resins. You wouldn't want to buy 30 gallons all at once then drag your project on for 2+ years. I get nervous using resin that is older than 12 months. US Composites puts labels on their resins saying they are only good...

    Mercruiser 3.7 / 470 Holley EFI Sniper.

I didn't know Holley made this product - that's really cool! It would be cooler if it was fully tuneable, but I understand there is more of a market for self tuning EFI. Where do you plan to mount the oxygen sensor? Do you run the system in open loop (no oxygen sensor) after the initial...

    1989 Celebrity 181BR Restoration

I went through 30 gallons of resin on my restoration too. I'm sure quite a bit of that was waste, as I was 100% a newbie with fiberglass when I started this project, and I made quite a few hockey pucks. I also made a LOT of PB and made big fillets, and PB takes a lot of resin. I'm guessing...

Mercruiser 4.3 Vortec Backfire and no start

BLUE TEXT - No, TDC lines on the harmonic balancer (front of the engine), not the flywheel (back of the engine). RED TEXT - No, you want both valves to be closed (up, not down). You should be able to wiggle the rockers and verify they are not pushing down on either intake or exhaust valve when...
