Mystery hose on Mercruiser 5.0 turns out to be AWESOME!!!

The stiffness of my topsider hose actually is preferred as it performs better that way. When the hose was newer and softer,it would actually collapse from the strong vacuum/hot oil combo. Charlie

Mystery hose on Mercruiser 5.0 turns out to be AWESOME!!!

My best setup was on a 255 Regal that i owned years ago.Very big 25 ft boat.Single v8 engine .Huge engine compartment.I installed an electric oil change pump on the inside transom a 2 hose system..1 Hose went to fitting that replaced the oil plug on oil pan.A 2nd hose got placed into an empty...

Mystery hose on Mercruiser 5.0 turns out to be AWESOME!!!

I dont think I can get to the drainplug from inside without help from a jockey. I just assumed since the hose was ziptied up near the ps pump that it should be done with my "Topside" oil changer. The topsider hose kinds fit in the fitting on the hose end with a little duct tape.Worked great and...

Does this miss sound like fuel or ignition to you ?

I would start with treating like a fuel issue.Change filter /fuel water separator, fresh fuel etc.All things you should be doing anyway.Wouldnt hurt to check the plugs.Charlie

    Winterizing indoor stored boat.

You can still partially fog the motor Pull the plugs one at a time and spray some fogging oil into each cylinder. You can then "bump the ignition just to have the pistons move a little. If you have a carb, spray some fogging oil into the carb before bumping the ignition. This way would be better...

Mystery hose on Mercruiser 5.0 turns out to be AWESOME!!!

Needed to replace one of my twin 1988 5.0 XL Mercruisers last year. Was not an easy task finding a replacement motor unless i wanted to spend $20k on a brand new motor. Got extremely lucky and found a excellent 2003 305 Vortec motor. There is a smaller hose with a small brass fitting on the end...

    Engine flushing

Either way ,a fresh water flush after every use is the best possible care you can take of your mercruiser block, manifolds, risers, heat exchanger. If you are in a slip ,lay on your belly and reach down to your trimmed up drive and put muffs on it and run until you are up to operating temp.Charlie

First time winterizing 4.3 mercruiser, alpha one.

Here are my 2 cents on this Lou .You and I boat in the same salty water. 30+ years with Mercruisers .Im floating from May till 1st week of Nov. I am neurotic about fresh water flushing my motors after EVERY use and I mean flushing after every time my motors run. That being said ,my manifolds...

First time winterizing 4.3 mercruiser, alpha one.

Your method is exactly what I planned on doing a loooong time ago and then my wife bought me a Camco kit for Christmas. It was only about $50 for the kit back then.the Camco kit has a valve to turn to switch from water to AF .Probably even easier than your method but both are fairly easy to do ...

Salt from outboard ruined my tools!!

The salt build up should be washed/rinsed or neutralized with vinegar and water prior to doing any work. Salt is only good for french fries !! Charlie

I know I am in the minority here big time.....HOWEVER I have done the "Camco" method since my 1st i/o in 1989. I have done this every year since on 3 different boats. The most recent is on twin 305s that i have owned for past 20 years.I have done this a lot of times.Never an issue.I used to pull...

    Stern light

Lights on pole last and last.....bases dont.Shine a flashlight in the base and see how much corrosion may be built up in there.I have replaced many a base and never a pole light.Charlie
