    1995 Force 50 Turns over, doesn’t start

Can you feel the compression on the cylinders? How about checking? See if the plugs are wet with fuel/oil. Try an induction timing light to see if there is enough current to fire the lamp and also if the timing is correct. If the timing light is firing and the timing marks are off the flywheel...

    Idling

I also think that today's fuel does not vaporize in the carburetor as easily and that makes starting atomist all of the old school engines, mowers, outboards, etc harder. I think that to aid in the evaproative pollution this is done, but I have no proof of that. Back in the day of British sports...

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

A clean taper and and a wee drop of oil and they will pull down tight. Not too much oil! Make sure you have it clean after lapping.

1990 Force 120 2 stroke loss of power high rpm

Replace/check the fuel pump diaphragm and fuel filter. Also make sure that the line from the tank and to the carbs has not separated (the internal sleeving) and is not blocking the fuel flow. Also try to post your question before Jerry gets up early in the morning so that your question gets in...

    Water in Fuel Starting Issues

Water in the fuel and nice pretty blue oil/water cost me a second overhaul of my 90 hp Sport Jet. There was enough water in the system to fill the water separator and carry over into the fuel, not enough to make it quit, just enough to burn #3 piston. Clean, fresh fuel = happy motor. As an...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

Sorry some of you took my comments wrong. There is more to learn than fixing an outboard, but to each his own. Learning how to approach problems is far more important than fixing a boat and applies to almost everything. No one noticed that almost everyone was ready to cut this thread loose...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

If you feel that way then you have learned little of value. The most important thing you should have gotten from this is to be polite and follow the advice that is offered to you in good faith. It seems to me that if you do not change your approach to life it will be fairly difficult in times of...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

I hope that you learned the very most important lesson, logical and step by step troubleshooting and careful work along the way. This alone is worth the entire cost of the boat, parts, and time invested. Go forth and prosper...

    Rectifier-regulator 4 wire, can I use a 5 or 6 wire???

Ground the black wire anyway as corrosion might build up over time. Find a likely ground screw, preferably where other grounds are connected.

    Rectifier-regulator 4 wire, can I use a 5 or 6 wire???

CDI has troubleshooting information for most outboards available on line. https://www.cdielectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/CDI%20Troubleshooting%20Guide%20-%202012.pdf

    Sport Jet 120

Also the shallow pan seen on the adapter plate is where the water carries over to the exhaust. There is a filler block in the jet that sits there as well. In the outboards this is where the exhaust exits the engine any water here just runs down with the exhaust and causes no problems.

    Sport Jet 120

I had a 90 that is basically the same with one less cylinder. My problem with water getting into the bottom cylinder was the wrong gasket installed when the motor was changed. The correct gasket has a definite block from the old water entrance in the bottom front of the water log. The cooling...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

It is possible that it is. try swapping coils. that would be the next easiest cheapest trial. I have no experience with the Thunderbolt system with two CDI packs., but if the trigger from #3 fires #2 I would think that it is OK. So either the coil or the CDI box OR some other wiring issue with...

    Rectifier-regulator 4 wire, can I use a 5 or 6 wire???

There is that. He asked if he could use something different and maybe he can. Sometimes you install different problems when you use something other that the correct unit. I think that the MOSFET unit used may have caused a little problem with my Sport Jet 90, but I would have to try it again...

    Rectifier-regulator 4 wire, can I use a 5 or 6 wire???

OK the gray wire to the tach can be just tapped into one of the yellow (?) wires that provides the AC power to the rectifier/regulator. so this takes care of 3 of the wires ( 2 yellow and one gray ) One black ground and a red power out. for a total of 5. The sixth wire on the 3 phase regulator...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

You could try removing the trigger coil and carefully inspecting it and checking the resistance with your meter while you flex the wires. If you can localize the problem perhaps you can repair it. (carefully)

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

I have worked as a maintenance and troubleshooting guy for 50+ years and have not seen everything, but I have seen a lot. Usually when I arrive on the scene troubleshooting and repairs have been attempted. Sometimes more issues were installed doing this work. Looking, making measurements...

    Rectifier-regulator 4 wire, can I use a 5 or 6 wire???

Many rectifier/regulators are available and might work for you. I have used one that was a three phase (three wire to the stator) and used two of them. This worked for me and actually had a better regulator that limited the voltage better than the one for the force that I had and had a large...
