    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

Non-logical self inflected faults are difficult to troubleshoot and this is the reason to me careful and logical in your working. Jumping from thing to thing and failing to be careful generates many problems that could be avoided.

Major two stroke screw up Force 120

You should be OK. (I think). The air cooled oil is made for higher temps than the water cooled engine (hopefully). Also the outboard motor oil is also designed to eventually break down in the water to some extent. There may be many who know more than I do on this subject.

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

You have measured the resistance from the Brown, White, and Purple wires to the black/white and got ~1200 ohms on each? Why do you think it is the stator? have you measured the resistance of the windings? The next thing is to measure the voltage with a DV meter with the engine running. Step by...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

If it is like the sport jets the ignition plate should be grounded, but you may have other issues that are causing the plate to be hot. There are grounding wires that are attached to the plate. Any rubber grommets are for shock mounting, not insulation. You probably have some part or wiring...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

The bottom cylinder is not firing and may have a water leak. Is there oily fuel on it? Either not fuel or no spark. It looks like it has never seen any heat. The reeds for that cylinder may be bad. (not an expert there) Fix the fuel leak before you blow the boat up, but if it is leaking...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

With no helper, definitely tie the boat down. You have a hard time actually paying attention to what is happening if you are driving the boat and looking over your shoulder. The RPM might be lower at WOT, producing power, but you might not hurt yourself or someone else. Double tie the boat...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

Actually starting over on the fuel with the known proper mixture is one of the first things to do. I don't know the octane requirement for that engine, but still step by step, make certain each part is correct before jumping to the next. Fuel (proper mixture and octane) , spark (including...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

What part of step by step following instructions is so hard? Step means one increment. One step at a time. Follow instructions. Eliminate one issue at a time and work your way to the answer. You have spark on each plug. Assuming that the timing is set correctly (not in evidence as yet. Carbs...

    Bad mixture? Help

What you see is melted pistons.

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

Did you check for spark on each cylinder with your timing light? Still sounds like a dead cylinder and low power. Your video did not sound like you were turning up much RPM. Step by step. Unloaded and engine will turn up a lot of RPM. loaded not so much. I have dealt with a dead cylinder myself...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

Have you checked for spark on each plug with your timing light running? Sounds like you have at least one dead Cylinder. Also your timing light is probably for 4 stroke engines and reads one spark firing per two revolutions. That means that your 2 stroke is firing twice as often and the rpms...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

What you need is just a cheap non-adjustable timing light. Advance in the timing light just confuses the issue. Set the timing light to Zero degrees (if this is a thing as I have no experience with this type of light.) The advance should be per the book. Make certain that the #1 piston is at TDC...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

Sorry you cannot listen to advice. Try again. IF THE MOTOR GOES TO MAX RPM "INSTANTLY" IT IS NOT BEING LOADED BY THE PROP AND IS RIDING ON THE REV LIMITER. Since you fail to register the advice given you can save time and remove the black/yellow wires and over rev the engine and that solves your...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

If anyone offers to help will you pay attention? Think about what you said. WOT OK Prop OK 6 mph max/ Cavitation or prop slipping on the shaft. ' The engine is probably sitting on the rev limiter at WOT. Take the black /yellow wire off the rev limiter and then you can finish blowing up the...

Holy **** guys, chill out. I took your advise and the boat is running and you're STILL going on that I didn't listen to your instructions? OK well, thanks for all the fish, bye.

Some help needed on a 90 Hp Force

On a pontoon I would stay with the most reliable 50 hp 1998 as it has the more modern electronic ignition. the extra power is to some extend illusion due the rerating of later engines (if I remember correctly) and would make relatively little difference in speed, but burn more gas. A 1991 would...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

Have you had anyone say anything about air gauges? Have you seen anything about them in the videos on setting up the Force engines? Have you watched the videos posted at the start of this forum? To begin with the carb throttle plates are set completely closed (link) and then the cam is adjusted...

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

What I mean to say is a logical step by step approach using logical progression will find the problem, but tuning by ear is probably not going to get the job done.

    1990 Force L-Drive 90hp -- Can't get it to idle -- losing my mind :D

Have you actually read the information you have already been given or referenced? Your helter-skelter troubleshooting and timing and adjustments will sooner or later result in a burned piston or just wrecked motor. It seems that you have actually followed little of the helpful information those...

    120 Force Starting Issues

There is always the possibility of water in one or more cylinders as well as water does not compress, but that should have cleared out by the second revolution of the crank. My experience with the cheap Chinese starters is that if you get a kickback it will bend the shaft in addition to other...
