Mercury 150 2 cycle low oil alarm sounding

Hi. Firstly, it could be a low oil alarm meaning that your supply tank in the bilge is low on oil. Or other low oil associated fault with the tank under the hood. Secondly, if this is one of the older 2.0 v6 2 strokes, you will want to do away with that oil injection system asap. Notorious for...

4hp 2T Mariner outboard - Trim not catching to Arm lock

Hi. Panic not…I’m almost certain this is because the engine is not attached to anything solid (like a boat). The engine isn’t all the way pushed into the transom bracket assembly there. It will either take a fair bit of force by hand, to slam the bracket hard towards the engine as she is now and...

mercury 2015 4 stroke hesitation mid RPM

Yeah. But it’s sure a thing, I’m afraid. Also can be caused by the cables inside the remotes binding up and causing issues with the neutral switch. There is also a shift switch under the hood that can get knocked by a loose or coming loose fixture on the cable assembly next to it.

mercury 2015 4 stroke hesitation mid RPM

Hi. It’s one of a couple of things. These engines are now known to have issues with the trim sender or limit switch. It causes the rpms to momentarily and occasionally limit the rpms when it thunks for a minute that your outboard is tilted up. It could also be your neutral safety switch in the...

2012 Mercury has occasional shudder when just in gear

There is usually a filter in the end of the fuel injection rail. Wee insert type arrangement. Think it’s to be changed or at least cleaned/inspected every 300 hours.

    1998 TRACKER PT175 "No compression"

Hole in the piston if it’s genuinely 0 psi. If it’s got some compression and you get the idea that the seller may not know too much about these things, could just be a sticking ring.

2012 Mercury has occasional shudder when just in gear

Ok. Not to say it couldn’t be fuel related perhaps. Or sensor related. I’m not certain that many folk know about the newer hub kit that reduces this, if it is at all this in the first place. Lots of potential reasons for such a thing really. Slightly damaged prop would be one. Bad fuel or even...

    MerCruiser single point drain leak.

Touch wood, I’ve managed to avoid the metal flakes, by leaving her filled with antifreeze each winter. Still check the fittings each year just in case though. She’s now 20 years old.

    Alarm in control box

I’d have a look at the oil tank level perhaps. Likely make sure it’s been properly disabled too. Some guys stop it from alarming, by just leaving oil in the tank. Even seen some that haven’t been disabled at all and just looped out at the supply lines.

1989 Mercruser 5.7 will not get over 2000 rpm

Outwith you perhaps not knowing if she was in better form previously, she’s just new to you and something like her being over propped is at play…it’s got to be the carb that’s first on the suspect list, in such a situation. Good luck

    MerCruiser single point drain leak.

Hi. I found that my drain valve had a very soft sealing point. As in, if you turn her down too tight, it will leak. If you back off a little, a bit of downward pressure and only just softly seat the valve, it will hold. On mine at least. Still never trust mine when it comes to winterising...

    Alarm in control box

Hi. As far I know, it can only be overheating or an oil associated alarm. Is the oil tank float switch disabled or cable tied up/tank left full ? Could also be an electrical issue of course

    Where are all the inflatables?

Have you looked at the Honwave models ? Made by Honda, or associated with at least. Suzumar are excellent too. That said, both I’ve mentioned aren’t cheap in anyway. You get what you pay for I suppose. Just recently, a friend bought one from a brand I’d never heard of here, in the UK. The...

Mercury bigfoot 60hp what running battery voltage is normal? 12.6-12.7v currently. Replace stator now?

See if you have a short circuit across the trim wiring. Or across the positive to earth on the engine. What does the voltage drop to when you turn the key and whilst turning her over ?

    Help with 75hp mariner

Sorry to hear the bad news there. Unfortunately it’s often the case, that certain outboards in this predicament, may be verging on or over the edge of what may be financially viable or reasonable in cost, to now put right. Especially getting anyone other than yourself to do it. Unless you’ve...

2012 Mercury has occasional shudder when just in gear

Could it be to do with the prop and hub kit ? Just with having the larger gearbox than the normal engine, she should run the larger props and a better hub kit. Often these and the CT later models can suffer prop rattle. There is now a hub kit available that deals with that.

You mean there was rust in a water tank you had her sat in to run ?

    Bravo 1 low water pressure

Ok. The sea water pressure sensors are quite often known to fail on these particular engines. But i guess that would show nothing at all or irrational readings perhaps.
  19. Q

    Bravo 1 low water pressure

Hi Can I ask where you are reading the pressure from (is it an analog gauge or from the smartcraft) ? And also if the boat is on a trailer or out the water when you find this ? I know that you’ll get next to nothing reading on the smart craft when you’re out the water and no back pressure. But...
