Are surge brakes always a PIA?

I have electric over hydraulic with disc brakes. I would never have drum brakes again if I ever put my boat in salt water and that includes electric drum brakes. On my pontoon trailer I still have drum surge and replaced the crappy TieDown unit. It failed after 6 years. I replaced it with a...

    Air bags

Air bags do NOTHING for your payload. In fact, they reduce it by the weight of the bags themselves. If you have too much tongue weight for a dead weight hitch, you need a weigh distributing hitch. I wouldn't even consider towing a a 14K boat without a weight distributing hitch....even with a 1T...

    Ford carb 460 Octane?

If it pings, you can always retard the spark a bit. I doubt it will but keep that in mind.

    Trailer weight distribution question

And the fenders. Actually not a bad plan because you can still use this trailer. The problem will be figuring out how far to move them.

water pump v belt pulley and shaft

Volvo has been using that same pump design for as long as Volvo Penta has been making stern drives. I would use it long before I switched to that Mercruiser design.

water pump v belt pulley and shaft

Did you try here: http://www.volvopentastore.com/ What is your complete model number? You have a grey or red engine? Raw water pumps of your vintage were not pulley driven. They were mounted on the crankshaft pulley. Which pulley are you actually talking about?

    Trailer weight distribution question

Buy a Sherline scale to see what your tongue weight is. With my Cobalt I am around 6300# with not much fuel or stuff in the boat and I have a 600# tongue weight(measured). I use a WDH. Most hitch receivers that come with 1/2T trucks are only rated 5000# total weight and 500# tongue. If you are...

1998 VP 5.0Gi looses power, maybe in protection mode

Your engine has an oil pressure sender and an oil pressure switch. It's the switch that determines if you are in S.L.O.W. mode. I can't remember if the switch is closed with low oil pressure or high but you can easily test that. Take the wire off the terminal and check resistance to ground and...
