    1986 Mercruiser 260 Advice

Oh, So not worth the upgrade? Then I will stick with my plan to rebuild mine. I am having trouble confirming my model of outdrive though. Could anyone confirm that the serial # 0b463371 is for a MR or R?

    1986 Mercruiser 260 Advice

Oh... This is not something I had not thought of, didnt know they were that compatable. That is a really good idea.... spent $500 on parts for the rebuild of the pre-alpha (actually think is an "R"), but I should be able to return them. Can you just confirm that I am correct with my belief it...

What motor oil is recommended for this engine? Any idea on the oil filter part number? What glue should be used to reattached the new distributor cap?

Just got a new to me 1986 Carver Santa Cruz (27') with a Mercruiser 260 (gm 350) and pre-alpha outrive. Doing a lot to rehab it, but wanted to keep the Carver specific stuff here. Looking for some advice on a few things. 1. I filed up the water tank and turned on (installed fuse) the pump...

    1986 Mercruiser 260 Advice

Just got a new to me 1986 Carver Santa Cruz (27') with a Mercruiser 260 (gm 350) and pre-alpha outrive. I am rebuilding the outdrive and have already rebuilt the carb. Engine runs great, but I need some advice on a few things. 1. Where do you drain the oil? Where is the oil dip stick? What...

    1989 Trophy, Adding 2nd Battery

It ended up working out fine. I set it up similar to my campervan setup (separating engine and rear batteries) by utilizing a Victron smart battery combiner like this one. This connects the battery when one is in a state of charge (alternator or shore battery charger) and disconnects them when...

1989 Bayliner Trophy Fresh Water Tank Questions

I did load it up with a ton of pink antifreeze. I am thinking of installing a 12v pump like this in the spring, just to make it a more usable sink and be able to drain it down easier in the winter.

Stumbling at Cruising Speed - OMC 5.8L

Ok, I think I will take that out also. I would like to pump out all the gas and take a look in the tank too, especially if the strainer is clogged. I was debating the best way to drain the gas tank, as it may have 20-40 gallons in it still with stabilizer. My thoughts was a 12v inline fuel...

Throttle Control Button, need a replacement

Thank you! #11 looks like the part I am looking for. I am going to read through that post and see if that will work for me. It does look the same though.

Throttle Control Button, need a replacement

It is a button, for neutral, I press in the plastic tab in the middle right now to get it working. Not a big deal, but it also holds the shift lever from sliding off so I have to hold it with two hands right now. Ill try and get a better picture next time I am out by the boat.

Stumbling at Cruising Speed - OMC 5.8L

How hard is this to get at? If there is a chance its an issue I want to check it out anyways. I plan to get a dwell meter and timing light to set everything. Coil is cheap, so are plug wires, so I will replace them also.

Stumbling at Cruising Speed - OMC 5.8L

Ok, Good to know. Think I used a feeler gauge to set it the first time. The coil does look old, I will replace it for sure. Are they hard to come by? Aftermarket ok? Mostly preventative. I got the boat really cheap in non-running condition (seized from sitting) and I just did all the likely...

Stumbling at Cruising Speed - OMC 5.8L

Sorry I forgot, when I replaced the points I replaced the condenser as well. The coil may be my suspect... Would that cause the intermittent, yet consistent issues I am seeing?

Stumbling at Cruising Speed - OMC 5.8L

Been working on my 1989 Bayliner Trophy 24' and it ran great... for the most part... last season, but I need help figuring out an issue. It starts fine, runs fine, but after about 5 minutes at cruising speed (1/2 to 3/4 throttle) it starts stumbling. If I throttle down and then bring it back...

1989 Bayliner Trophy Fresh Water Tank Questions

It is a hand pump located on the sink right now. Would like to change it to an electric pump in the future to help drain it out in winter. Not sure I can get to the drain plug in the tank and the hand pump would take a really long time to drain it down.
