    1987 Evinrude 70HP VRO E70ELCUR

Instead of just plugging the vro someone did a fuel pump conversion.....to bad to because mixing fuel and burning rich at low rpm's sucks. If you can find a used vro someday the rebuild kits are reasonably priced. For now just get other things fixed and get it running. Like racer says...

    1987 Evinrude 70HP VRO E70ELCUR

I would fix the vro....well worth it. I assume the missing puzzle is the tach. Very much needed for diagnostics and proper prop pitch. Manuals are everywhere but if you just need some wiring color codes there is lots of people to help you out here on that.

Just Cut out the Kill Switch?

I'm in Seattle and I fish here and the ocean. I catch salmon but I prefer bottom fish. I run after big lingcods.....aka "toads" Not to disagree, but salmon last longer in the freezer than bottom fish. The oil in the meat makes it last longer. I try to eat up my hali within 3 months of freezing.

Thinking of switching controls for an outboard

If you buy the more modern style omc/BRP box you will have to buy the adapter cords to get it to plug into your harness.

Looking advice on lower unit repair

When running on muffs or in a barrel you do not get a clean burn and stuff accumulates in the exhaust until it bleeds down. Take it out and run her hard and it will clean itself up.

Looking advice on lower unit repair

Yes, most likely 2 stroke exhaust....when changing low unit oil change or inspect screw washer seals, also any one man break bleeder/intake manifold tester will work on a lower unit.

1992 70hp Johnson - electrical issue with Trim and Start and gear shaft position fail

Sparked at the ground connection means clean up the ground connection. As for the gearcase, I can't even understand you. The clicking in nutruel sounds normal.

1992 70hp Johnson - electrical issue with Trim and Start and gear shaft position fail

You should only loose a volt or two so something is wonky. Put your jumper cables on the positive post of the starter, connect them to the battery and then carefully touch an engine ground somewhere. If it cranks, you know it's the battery/wires/soloniod issue....if it doesn't crank your...

Are drive shafts interchangeable before 1992 and after 1993 for 9.9's / 15's

On the 6 to 8 HP series they changed the splines halfway through 91. Driveshaft from that era are hard to find. My prop shop buddy cut mine down and welded it and it worked out great. Besides the drive shaft, the shift shaft is to long and you have to cut down the water pickup tube with a...

1992 70hp Johnson - electrical issue with Trim and Start and gear shaft position fail

Post your voltage at the battery, post your voltage at the battery side of your soloniod, post your voltage on the he starter side of the solenoid while someone turns the key. Most likely in that area. No wing nuts!
