    2008 90TRL need more power!

An 18 pitch prop would be about right for your boat and engine combo. Even if it was repitched, don't they only change it by up to 2" on stainless or so? I do not think the root of the issue is a prop problem. 16 to 20 pitch will be ballpark the correct pitch. 90 PSI, if your pressure gauge is...

    1999 Yamaha 115 idle adjustment

I just bought the 130 outboard a month or so ago. The oiling system I believe worked, but I never tried it. I deleted it because when I go fishing or hunting, I want my stuff to work. I have been told that the Yamaha outboard oiling systems are great too and that I did not need to delete it from...

    1999 Yamaha 115 idle adjustment

On a car when an electric fuel pump goes out, you get a ride home from your nearest buddy for free. On a boat when your electric fuel pump goes out, you call 1-800-boat-tow and shell them $2k. Okay maybe exaggerating, hopefully you have a kicker, but crawling home on your kicker over a bar is no...

    Low Compression, Low $ Advice

Thank you for all the responses y'all! Incredible help! It seems like the consensus is a full rebuild rather than honing and new rings, so I will save some $$ in the mean time. The funny thing is, I posted this thread before I took it out on the water. I bought it as a "mechanic special" and...

    Low Compression, Low $ Advice

Hey all, just need some experience, thoughts, or opinions. You can skip all the intro if you want and scroll to the last two paragraphs, but here is the backstory. I just bought this used 1996 Yamaha 130TLRU 2 stroke for pretty cheap as a "mechanic special." I already deleted the oil injection...

Yamaha 2 stroke , shift cable adjustment ?

Where does it say HDMI on it? Do you mean HPDI? I have never heard of HDMI relating to a Yamaha outboard, but that could easily just be me. I thought the OX66 was the carbureted, oil-injected model. I thought the OX66 and HPDI were 2 different engines. Anyway, since I do not see any more...

    Random no crank on 5.0

We would need to know what engine you have (model/year or serial number, etc.). There are a lot of "5.0" engines. Or you could just follow the wires from the starter till you hit the solenoid.

    Random no crank on 5.0

Then your battery switch should be good. The next steps would be what Bondo suggested. Clean all battery connections and look for corroded wires. If that does not do it then put a test light on the signal wire on the starter solenoid like suggested. If it lights up and the engine does not...

    '76 Merc 50hp "Switch Assembly"

"Mercury switch." Funny I am looking for a Yamaha to "switch" to 😂 I tried soldering a new wire to see if i can save the switch, but after soldering new wires on, the old wires just broke. Digging deeper into the engine I found 2 other yellow wires coming off the stator that were pretty much...

    Random no crank on 5.0

Sounds like your battery switch is bad, but it is easy to test. Does anything else work when you have the battery switch on "all" and your engine won't crank? Do your gauges work? Does your bilge pump work? What voltage are you reading when your switch is on "all" and your engine won't crank?

    1994 Astro S-18FS (won't start)

Well the boat that the engine is on is not nearly as relevant as the engine itself. We need to know the engine. There are an immense amount of completely different firing systems that would fall into the "2-stroke 115 Mercury" category. What is the serial number/model number? Model year...

    '76 Merc 50hp "Switch Assembly"

Ooooh, hmm interesting. Thanks! I guess i will see if I can salvage by soldering the little wire that is left and see if it works. A new one is $75 which seems expensive for something I can just turn the key off and get the same thing done. If it was power trim and tilt I would want it more, but...

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

I agree with others. 1,400 hours would not scare me away, but I can work on engines okay. If you are scared to do minor engine work, you should pass. No way I would buy it without a full testing of the engine, eg. compression test and leak down test to start. You can get the tools to do it at...

    '76 Merc 50hp "Switch Assembly"

Hello all I bought a boat with a 1976 Mercury 500M 50 HP 2-stroke 4 cylinder manual tilt with serial number 7080037. I plan on selling the engine for a bigger one, but I want to make sure I have the engine in good working condition before I sell it. I have done all the typical tune ups, like...

    Mercruiser 260 Backfire Through Exhaust

Forgot to update this. So after overheating the engine because the water pump belt got thrown from misaligned pulleys, I blew a head gasket and cracked an exhaust manifold. Head gaskets are now replaced, pulleys are aligned, and manifolds are replaced and it is running great. Got to take the...

    Cracked mercruiser 260

That depends. What is the block's serial number? 1986 is when Chevy went from a 2-piece rear main seal to a 1-piece. So it depends if your boat manufacturer put a 1985 block in it or 1986 block. The serial number will tell you.

    Mercruiser 260 Backfire Through Exhaust

Tested the block. No leaks. Tested the heads. NO LEAKS!!! Thank goodness I might be able to go fishing after all. Since I heard a leak around cylinder 1 when I originally put it back together, I either did not get a good seal with the head gasket, or my mating surfaces are warped. It could be...

    Mercruiser 260 Backfire Through Exhaust

A second look at the cylinders and heads reveals that cylinders 6 and 8 are oily, not wet like I thought. Rookie mistake. I suspect the intake manifold gasket was to blame since one of the bolts to the intake manifold gasket pulled the threads on the head, and this bolt was located by cylinders...

    Overheating issue.

Okay so is the only indication that you are overheating your dash gauge? We can already conclude that your dash gauge is wrong if you shoot the temperature at your T-stat housing and your sender and it is 80 F difference. If you have a 160 F thermostat, and your thermostat housing is reading 160...

    Mercruiser 260 Backfire Through Exhaust

I do not. All I know is that when I did a pressure test after removing the leaky manifold, I could hear hissing in the number 1 cylinder. When removing the plugs from cylinders 6 and 8 (side with the good exhaust manifold), they were either wet or oily. I could not put my ear up to the...
