Hi all, I'm finishing up a full restoration on my 96 bayliner and about to get the drive bolted up once I finish the engine alignment. I did an entire bellows job, shift cable, u joints, gimbal bearing, output shaft seal (the one behind the gimbal bearing)... I've also pressure tested the...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

Finished all the bow seats! Sorry for the crappy picture but it was dark out when I finished... I definitely made some mistakes that are gonna bug me, but still pretty happy with them. i definitely found the max of my old singer today... had to go thru about 6 layers, all with 1/4" sew foam...

Couple boat pron things... yesterday I installed the wood backers for the bow backrests... plan to leave them there for a couple weeks hoping the side pieces maintain the curvature of the hull... I didnt want to do any kerfing if I dont have to but well see... the screws are holding it now but I...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

Lots of progress but nothing super exciting to show.. mostly cutting wood, sanding, spar varnish, paint, repeat... I did finally put my machine and sewing skills to a true test... overall I'm pretty happy... there's a few spots I'm bummed about but it's one of those things I'm probably the only...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

More boat pron! Finally made my first sewn panels for dash areas... Pretty happy with how the stitching went... It definitely needs help being pushed along when going thru 4 layers of vinyl but the needle goes thru no problems without any bogging down. I went with a flat felled seam with the...

Mercruiser MCM 5.7L Alpha vs MCM 5.7L Bravo

Thinking this is probably a simple answer, but what is the difference between these two motors that gives the difference in horsepower? (My assumption is the Bravo motor has the vortec heads and 4bbl carb, but just my guess). Otherwise, they to appear to have the same motor specs.

New panels are done and "waterproofed".. now need to apply foam and new vinyl. I also installed the new pleated vinyl on the hull sides. After that decided to cut 2 new holes in the boat for front speakers. Got some pictures this time.

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

Decided last night to buy some premade boxes for storage at the helm and admirals seat... The previous design has a plywood "shelf" behind it. The opening was about 3x12 so short and wide... and the shelf behind the opening was about 16" deep... So it was basically pointless except for losing...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

Doesnt look like much, but worked on wiring for about 2.5 hours today... pretty much got everything done except a couple speaker wires but that's pending where I decide to put the subwoofer... Now I think I'm gonna finish up the shift cables and throttle cables next, then there's really nothing...

Minor update... Got some decent weather yesterday so I snuck out for a couple hours and got the foil insulation installed on the back of the rear seat (its really only meant for sound deadening)... Its fire rated stuff so won't catch fire but not real thick.. We'll see how it does with sound...

Finally got all my supplies for sewing... decided to cut a scrap of vinyl to practice and get the tension figured out... ended up trying to see a double top stitch and it actually went pretty well... I can tell I'm going to have trouble keeping the stitch size consistent since it's not a...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

While still contemplating any other designs on the side panels, I decided to work on another piece which I plan to basically copy except without the speaker, just a bigger pocket... Gonna get the new pieces of wood cutout and start working on the vinyl for this once my thread comes in from...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

Here's what I'm thinking... I traced the outline of the existing panel so I know it will fit and follow the curves of the hull.... I left the inside so I could use it as a drawing board. I sketched out some lines for the vinyl and also some pockets for bags and cupholders and speakers and...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

So now that I'm back to work on the boat, I'm tackling several things at once... first, I reinstalled the trim pump, the starting and deep cycle batteries, and laying out the new wiring from the batteries to all the accessories (amp, fuse block, bilge pump, etc...) I also got the trim rams...
