    Help me decide- Johnson 30

Found this motor for sale just down the road. Pull start, tiller, beat up prop. Are 30’s very common? Took a look at it but the model and serial #‘s are too worn off to read. Guy said it was his father-in-laws but he had used it until last year. He ‘thinks’ it’s an ‘89 or ‘90. It’s got some...

    Co-Ownership Question . . .

Agree with the others here. Keep and continue to enjoy your 330. Maybe he could get his own boat and keep it at the summer place, since he has a ‘hunk of cash’. That way he can use it, break it and fix it - all by himself, just like you have for years!

    Outboard Jet Drive

Jet outboards don’t have the same ‘grip’ on the water that props have. If you’ve ever run a SeaDoo you should understand. If you’re willing to trade off the relatively firm grip of a prop for the shallow water ability, go for it.

Need a floor fastener for fiberglass, screws all stripped

Search “Toggler”. I use these regularly and are exactly what you need. If you run in salt water you can get them in stainless steel. They ain’t cheap but they do work well. I recommend you get a few more than you’ll need because its pretty easy to break the plastic slide until you figure them out.

How to Remove Several Coats of Bottom Paint?

Pay someone to soda blast it if you can. Chemical strippers do the job but they are expensive, messy and SLOW, not to mention chemical burns to any exposed skin! When I refurbished my 30 year old Silverton 34C, I tried chemicals but gave up after 1-1/2 days. I discovered the many layers of...

Running a Twin Outboard on One Motor

Lots of offshore boats troll with only 1 engine. The ones I know alternate every trip to keep the meters close. If the rig you’re looking at isn’t a dedicated fishing boat then I’d suspect something- but wouldn’t stress much about it.

    Heat exchanger cleaning

When I went to do this I couldn’t find a radiator shop that would do it. I used CLR cleaner in a bucket, did both of my Crusaders at the same time. Took off the end caps and immersed the heat exchangers for a day, then carefully rodded out the tubes with a stiff wire. Put them back in the...

    Console thickness

Welcome to iBoats! My 1448. The console is made from 5/8” CDX and painted with a 2 part paint. I made it for sit or stand. 15 years and it‘s holding up just fine, but the wood doesn’t touch the deck. It’s technically a side console because it’s not centered on the hull.

    First Engine Rebuild you did

My 1971 Yamaha RT-1 enduro. Lifted the motor out and tore it down on the bench. As I recall, the problem was only a couple of spun bearings. I was 15 at the time and had a buddy helping. No parts diagram or repair manual, we just got the parts we needed from the dealer. Put it all back together...

Steering left goes right, right goes left

I had the same problem once back in my youth. That boat had a steering rack and I re-installed it upside down. Sure made for an ‘interesting’ day at the lake! Is it possible that your helm unit was made to be used with the cable running down the port side?

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion to cars- any experience?

This thread ISN'T about propane, LNG, or the low-pressure houshold natual gas delivered via pipe to homes. CNG is the exactly the same gas piped into homes, but for vehicular use the gas must be compressed to 3000 or 3600#. At this time there doesn't seem to be a safe, reliabile way to pump up...

What axle grease? 2006 Load Rite w/ superlube hubs

OK here's the deal- I just bought a tandem trailer that has never seen a launch ramp; it was bought new and stored a project boat. I want to lube the hubs but have no idea what kind of grease was used from the Load Rite factory. I'm well aware of the problem with incompatable greases. Does...

    A boat for you multi-millionaires

She's been for sale for about 8 years now- they'd probably discount it just a bit. http://www.gentryeagle.com/ I saw this boat (in race form) back in 1989. Pretty cool.
