    fiberglassing in new floor

You said the back of the stringers were rotted. Are you sectioning or replacing them?

    fiberglassing in new floor

I did not have to remove the top cap for mine so I cannot tell you the best way, but plenty have and can guide you. For the transom once you have all the rot out you will see if the cracks went all the way through. It is an easy fix since it must be replaced anyway, and you will already have...

    1998 Bayliner Capri floor.

I'm glad you are ok. I had a few near misses when the wheel got pinched and pulled the grinder out of my hands.

    1998 Bayliner Capri floor.

I just started using the 435 (I was buying local until price increases). It is a way better product than what I was getting locally, seems to wet out a lot nicer and kicks faster. US composites is a high volume company so they have fresh stock that doesn't sit around according to the gentlemen...

    73 Sea Ray restoration

Got around to getting the underside of the first piece of deck glassed. US Composites resin is night and day compared to what I got locally. It wet out so much nicer, I wonder if I was getting old stock from the place by me. Wish I would of used it from the beginning. I am hoping to have the...

    1990 18' Bayliner

Just make sure that you do an honest assessment of the condition of the boat for your safety. An unsafe car more than likely breaks down on the side of a road, an unsafe boat sinks.

    Floor and Transom Rebuild

I found it a lot easier to remove foam with an angle grinder and a cupped wire wheel attachment. A respirator and safety goggles(not glasses) is a must, also at minimum a long-sleeved hooded shirt and pants. It will turn the foam to dust and go everywhere.

    1990 18' Bayliner

You are correct that you will never recoup the time or money. Restoring a boat is not about making money, for 5 or 6k for a total gut you will not find a comparable boat that is 100% rot free or without its own problems. If done right the boat will last at minimum of another 30 years. Which...

    Floor and Transom Rebuild

Most people on the forums use US Composites unless you have a local place that you can get fiberglass supplies from. I was going local until they increased the prices. I just got my first order from them and they were great. I called in my order and it was shipped from Florida to Michigan in...

    1990 18' Bayliner

As others have stated it is more than likely going to be a total gut. There is no point in doing a patch as that will prematurely fail due to the rest of the boat having rot, saturated foam, water, etc. Once you have it open and do a few core samples you will know. Then you can come up with...

    1998 Bayliner Capri floor.

You will find lots of things that previous owners improperly did during a rebuild. When I pulled the carpet up on mine I found a 2'x2' section of the deck was cut out and ply just laid in place without any glass or waterproofing not even screwed down, then carpeted over. Makes you wonder if it...

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

If you are noticing any deformity in the hull I would. Possibly you can slide a board between the roller and hull, as long as you are 100% sure the setup will be stable. I did that to mine because my bunks were sagging before I replaced them and it worked well.

    73 Sea Ray restoration

My order from US Composites arrived today. Only good things to say about them. Good prices and quick delivery. Only wish I lived a little closer to keep shipping costs down. Unfortunately Michigan weather does not want to cooperate with the restoration. It snowed the last 2 days and will...

    fiberglassing in new floor

Use a 1/4 bit and don't go all the way through and check the shavings. You can then mix some thickened resin to fill the holes if it is good. If not you have to replace it. Outside of the dangers of a rotten structure, your new repairs will prematurely fail.

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

I used tile spacers then piped PB in the center and both ends to lock it in place. Once that cured I removed the spacers then PBed under the rest, made the fillet, and tabbed all at once. I did it that way so it was all wet on wet. They came out super solid.

A tip that was given to me and seemed to work well. Once you are done working take a cold shower(not super cold but not warm) use bar soap and rinse, don't dry use lotion all over, then take a normal shower and wash all lotion off.

Flotation Foam in Half of Boat

It is your boat do as you wish. Please keep others off of it for their safety. With that said if one side is rotten so is the rest. Depending on how bad, if the boat survives the season, the money spent to redo the floor twice pays for the foam to do it right the first time. If you are...

    3.0L Manifold Removal- Frozen

Looking at the parts diagrams if it is a one piece exhaust design it should just be the bolts. If it is a 2 piece exhaust it has studs also. If you have everything out it is more than likely just corrosion or a gasket sealer holding it together. When I hit mine I put the piece of wood in...

    3.0L Manifold Removal- Frozen

I have a 73 140 not sure how much the design changed but mine is 3 bolts and 2 studs with nuts. Double check that everything is out. I had to give mine a whack with a 3lb hammer amd block of wood (not too hard and make sure you are holding the manifold so it doesn't fall.) It may have some...

    73 Sea Ray restoration

I have the bilge and ski locker cut out and those pieces ready for fiberglass. My plans for tomorrow are to finish prepping the rest of the deck getting ready for fiberglass. I had to order my supplies from us composites due to my local place raising prices to beyond reasonable. Even with...
