    Stalls on acceleration under load

Float level determines level of fuel in the carb bowl. Accelerator pump is the squirting when you open the throttle. 2 different animals. However, a sticky float can either not let fuel in the carb, or let too much in so it's worth making sure the carb is clean.

    Mercruiser 3.0

An engine that runs great when it runs, but doesn't run reliably, doesn't run great.

    Mercruiser 3.0

Is the marine ignition module an OEM part. Some aftermarket ones are "dodgy" in your terms.

Upgrade from prestolite to pertronix or replace dist. with delco voyager

Or you can replace the points and condenser every couple years for 10 bucks and it will continue to work just fine. Possibly a dumb answer

Mercrusier 350 MAG MPI - RPM issue under a load

So it's an 880 block. very common 350 block. roller block. 2 or 4 bolt main. could have mechanical fuel pump or not. likely made in mexico

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

Brother you are doing just fine. I had to use a tree the first time I did it. Now I have an atv winch on a steel beam across several trusses in my garage. My boat is low enough to get the engine out even with an 8 foot ceiling but I'm guessing your pontoon won't fit. As long as your hoist is...

Mercury 6.2L Loss of Planning Power/ Top End

Either use a remote starter switch with the key off or pull off or disconnect the fuel pump relay

Mercury 6.2L Loss of Planning Power/ Top End

Also, I am assuming the boat stays in the water. Marine growth can foul the hull and block exhaust and cooling water in the drive. When was the last time the hull was cleaned and drives serviced?

Mercury 6.2L Loss of Planning Power/ Top End

If you can get the serial numbers off the engines it will help those with access to factory manuals get the information they need to help you out. Also how long have you owned the boat and how long has the issue been going on. Have you added a significant amount of gear or other weight to the boat?

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

I was having trouble with that cam calculator web site last night. Kept getting a message saying it was down for maintenance. But I'm really confused. Maybe I'm not thinking correctly or reading things wrong, but the numbers indicate to me that the 395 cam with less duration even with the LSA...

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

It is at about the max lift you can run without modifying the heads. Not to say there absolutely won't be a problem, but many people run it on stock heads. Works great for me

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

I wouldn't consider it a hotrod cam by any stretch. It is designed for torque and midrange. It is commonly used by marine engine builders as a stock cam. Many people have pulled it out of marine engines, including myself.

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

I have that exact cam in my vortec 350 and it is a very common cam for marine engines. Works just fine with wet exhaust. Zero reversion. Valve overlap is the issue with marine cams not just duration or lobe separation angle. I think you will be happy it is designed for low end torque with max HP...

Swap engine - but what about camshaft?

The cam from the 350 will work fine as Bondo said. No problems with valve timing with that cam.

5.0 mpi backfiring through exhaust. Won’t start

Some engines are reverse rotation and some do it in the drive. A way to tell for sure is to remove a rocker arm cover and watch the valves. if you turn the engine clockwise (RH) and the exhaust valve closes and intake valve opens immediately, then it's right hand. If the intake closes then...

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

you can line up the mark with 8 degrees on the timing cover at idle but it doesn't tell you what your full advance is at 2-3000 rpm. for that you need timing tape or an advance timing light

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

As has been said, that is a lot of boat for that engine. WOT rpm is typically tested with one or two people, minimum gear, and half a tank of fuel. However, if you plan on running loaded nearly all the time or want to make sure you have good power when loaded, you can test it at the normal load...

    5.7 omc stalling while shifting

A standard timing light flashes whenever the spark plug fires and you line it up on the timing cover gauge to determine timing. An advance timing light lets you dial in an amount of advance so that the flash happens when the timing mark is on zero on the gauge. The amount of advance you dialed...
