    New to boating, first restoration

^^^ I agree. The front half of my stringers looked like mulch and most of the glass was just flapping around. The bilge area sounded great to find out when I took the deck out that it was 1/4 of glass no glass on the other side and a bunch of mulch pinned against it with wet foam.

    Trolling motor options/suggestions

I was looking at those I really want an I-pilot but I'm trying to keep cost down as much as possible. With the plate I have been reading about it destroying the lower because of back pressure and one person said he noticed badly fouled plugs. So I am wondering if there is any truth to that...

    Trolling motor options/suggestions

I appreciate the response The boat has a kicker plate on it already I also have a 9.9 outboard but it is 2 stroke(from my 14ft aluminum boat) and I dont have a lot of room for the separate tank. Although I will have it on for the maiden voyage and until I can trust the merc 140. I will admit...

    Trolling motor options/suggestions

How is it going? I have a 73 sea ray 180 with a merc 140 that I am currently restoring (just got the stringers and transom done, starting the deck shortly). I have been looking at my options for a trolling motor. I currently have a minkota 55lb thrust transom mount but doubting that will be...

Is my boat polyester or epoxy?

Last time I went to my local place I got 5 gallons of poly a bottle of mekp 10yds of 1708 and 1.5oz CSM a gallon of fumed silica and a new roller for about $420. In comparison a lot cheaper than the same amount for just resin.

    ‘73 Bee Craft

I was just wondering the right of the stringers looked like there was some pour in stuck to the hull. Manufacturers rushed a lot of boats and they were not built the greatest. When I built my stringers I extended the 2 bulkheads that were just in the center all the way to the sides and added...

Is my boat polyester or epoxy?

Welcome. No dumb questions, I would rather ask a question then do a repair without knowing. As far as I know which is not much is almost every boat if not every fiberglass boat is poly. I am restoring my boat with poly and I cannot imagine it can get much stronger for boating unless you are...

Make sure to take lots of measurements and pictures for reference for when you put them back in. I measured the height of mine every 6" you don't have to match the contour perfectly that is what the PB bedding is for but the closer the better. Also make sure you grind out far enough for the...

^^^what I was saying explained way better. Only difference between what he said and what I did on mine was i used tile spacers to elevate the stringer. only because that was what I had on hand, but since they get removed what you use makes no difference you can use wood shims to magic to make...

If you are talking about a foam strip under the stringer that is just an alternative way to bed a stringer. If you put PB under the stringer a foam strip is not necessary. The goal is to make sure the stringer is not creating hard spots on the hull.

    ‘73 Bee Craft

Yeah, basically you want to make sure that there is not a point contact on the hull. If you bed in PB you have consistent contact throughout the entire stringer

No need for CSM in between 1708 it already has a CSM backing. Only if you are using regular 17oz.(if using epoxy no need for CSM) Yes you don't want the stringer creating hard spots. What I did was used tile spacers under the stringer then used a pastry bag to inject thickened resin...

Seeking brainstorming ideas from experienced hull rivet gluvit repairs for a 1995 grumman lowe sea nymph sport deck stinger deck boat issue

If you plan on putting in a new deck once it is out and the foam is removed (angle grinder with cup wire wheel worked great for me very messy though) if the rivets at the bottom are suspect put some water in the hull and look for possible leaks. But if everything is out you should rebuck all...

    1988 Renken CC 2000 Project

Welcome. I would start by confirming the motor runs. Next do core samples of the transom deck and stringers to confirm if rot is present. So you can determine the cost and time that will be involved

    Fibreglassing Top corner of Transom?

I just got the pictures to load my internet isn't great at work. Definitely a lot of stuff around the edges. Even if the wood is solid the transom needs a lot of work to be safe enough to hang a motor off the back.

    Fibreglassing Top corner of Transom?

It sounds like a rotting transom. I would do a core sample and check the wood. There shouldn't be any movement. A boat that old the damage probably isn't just localized to the transom. I would check for other soft spots around the floor, and if you have access sample the stringers also.

Restoring/Converting a 1994 Bumble Bee bass boat to a Center Console

Got any pictures. It usually is cheaper and safer to buy what you want than to convert something that wasn't designed for it. Anything is possible though.

Small Hole Repair - Good Idea or Bad Idea?

What I did for chopped glass was take CSM and ran it through a cross cut paper shredder. You have to make sure it is clean so paper bits do not get in it. I just put a trash bag under the head and ran it through, then take it out and pull it apart and run through again. It worked for me but...

1965 Glasspar Seafair - Floor replacement

In my opinion local is the way to go. I paid a little more for it but the convenience of getting it when I need it was worth it. Also the the staff at my local place was extremely helpful making sure I had the right stuff and made sure I knew the process.
