The first picture you posted where the floor has a square cut out. The cut looks like it was where the gas tank is sitting and looking closer at the front of the cut looks like the blade ran across the top of the tank. Even if the blade just gouged it I would replace it. It looks to be a...

Sounds like a gummed up carb. Mix some seafoam then prime the motor and let sit for a day or 2 if it is not bad it should clear it up if not may need to get the carb rebuilt. Make sure you check clean and replace any fuel filters and check for any cracked or leaking hoses

No problem. You can gel coat it. Make sure everything is cleaned then make sure you grind to good glass. If it is all solid you need to still sand it really good then clean with lots of acetone. I bought some of the PL it has its uses but for structural things like gluing the transom in and...

If you are talking about the glue residue left from the carpet. I soaked it in goof off then used a angle grinder with a cup wheel. It also comes in handy for removing foam. It makes a huge mess with foam so proper clothing safety goggles *not glasses!* and a respirator is a must. Which you...

If you pull the cap you have to support the hull with a cradle before removing floor and stringers. The hull will shift causing big problems down the road. The boats original construction was poly. You will have some that will push for epoxy and some that push poly. At the end of the day yes...

1967 Starcraft 16’ fiberglass Newport V hull restoration project

It is composite material such as coosa. I have not personally used it due to price. Many on the board have and would be able to better explain it. My thought process is even with sub standard mass produced work my boat lasted almost 50 years (was it really sub standard lasting that long🤔)...

If it were mine I would remove cap and as others have stated do a complete rebuild. No telling what is beneath the floors. When I pulled the floor on my 73 it looked like mulch from a garden center. (Pics are in my thread). The next step you must do is determine if a rebuild is worth it to...

Hard to tell without any pics, you can replace the transom inside or out each is a different process of course but most remove the cap and replace from the inside. My opinion is if the outside is in good condition don't touch it. As for lasting another season that is something you must...

Deck repair looks like might need new stringers and any other advice.

Not sure on your work area but once out a motor doesn't take up much room. For removal depending on the motor and boat the harbor freight 2 ton picker has a high reach and only costs 200. A lot cheaper compared to shop prices. It worked well on my 73 sea ray 180 with a 140 merc with the...

    73 Sea Ray restoration

Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry I have not done an update in awhile. Life has been keeping me very busy with working, holidays, birthdays, and my house remodel (finally finished with that). I have the stringers glassed in and done, sorry no pics yet my garage is a disaster and I am...

Adding dash voltage gauge for trolling motor batteries.

If you have a battery switch you would just wire it up after the battery switch. It would be off if the switch is off, or read which ever battery is currently being used. If you want both batteries at the same time you would need one for each battery hooked up to the battery. They may sell...

Screw and Rivet Types for Aluminum

If the original stainless lasted 44 years without corrosion, there is no reason to change. I don't see an issue going with either one. Although someone with more experience using aluminum hardware may have a reason to use or not use aluminum.

    73' mercruiser rewire

I have to correct myself, just realized I looked at the wrong schematic. The wire does not go to the starter. It runs to the 40 amp breaker then to the slave solenoid I also just realized you answered my question before I asked it when I re-read your post. You sir are good .

    73' mercruiser rewire

I appreciate it. I have the whole service manual downloaded on my phone and computer. I have a little bit of down time at work so i looked over the schematic. I couldn't find the sticky but with a search came across a few threads. I see there is a wire coming from battery power off the...

    73' mercruiser rewire

The ignition was already switched over to a pertronix when I bought the boat. That is where the wiring from the previous owner was messed up. They moved all connections to the negative post of the coil and mixed up the plug wires and unhooked the shift interrupt switch. I switched the coil to...

    73' mercruiser rewire

How is it going? I bought a 73' Sea Ray 180 for $400 off of a distant relative of my wife, The boat was rotten which I am currently restoring(link in my signature). Before I pulled the motor I had to troubleshoot the wiring but eventually got it fired up. The wiring is a mix of original and...

    Plugs plugs and wires

If you go on mercruiserparts (cannot remember off hand if that is the correct name for the site) you can download the catalog for your motor giving you all the correct part numbers. A lot of the parts are no longer available but you can use them to cross reference to the correct available part...
