    Starting Dry

A 5 gallon bucket full of water on your swim platform, a hose, and gravity fed to some muffs. Why take a chance and shorten the life of your impeller?? When you run out of water, shut it down

    1986 Mercruiser 470 water leak

Make sure cam seals were oriented correctly. I believe both lips face the antifreeze side. If not, it will leak immediately.

Hose popped off - Alpha 1 Gen 2

Yes, I use the same tube on my alpha one gen 1. I was so tired of wrestling with it only to find it popped off again and again. The only issue I sometimes have is the turbulence right above my Humminbird transponder gives bad readings

If you think the tree is strong enough, add a strap or chain to the outer part of limb to sure it up. (As seen in my beautiful art work) :)

Funny how that happens. When I had my Silverton 392, I would tell the marinas it was 39', but after a couple beers with my buddys, it would immediately grow to 46' loa. ;)

    Engine removal thoughts

The one I rent is an "engine hoist" It lifts plenty high enough to get the motor over the transom while sitting on my roller trailer. It is a manual hydraulic jack pump just like an automotive engine hoist

    Engine removal thoughts

I rent a lift from my local equipment rental place. Its basically a tow behind high lift cherry picker much like an auto engine hoist. It costs about $70 for the weekend, its easy to deal with on my own, and when Im done with it, I just return it and its no longer in my way. Easy

    Boat Cover Ribs/Braces

Yes, or I have some heavy foam I get from work. I just lay it over and wrap it on with electrical tape. Its all about quick and easy as winter is getting near! Also make sure you dont use the windshield as a support! Ask me how I know. ;)

do vintage Johnson red gas tank contain lead paint ?

Eastwood sells a 2K clear coat in a rattle can. You could topcoat the red with it for better protection (I would think). You would have to test it to see if it reacts to whatever paint you use

Best way to waterproof plywood transom

Don't know about breathing... It does allow the wood to expand and contract and offers uv protection

do vintage Johnson red gas tank contain lead paint ?

Yes. I would also think the cans are galvanized under the red paint and that is something you dont want to remove with a grinder nor do you want to breath in while doing so....

do vintage Johnson red gas tank contain lead paint ?

My opinion, I think thats a bad choice. The metal is fairly thin and contoured. You may be removing too much metal trying to get the paint off. If you go that route, use a light touch

Angle grinder = Sparks + Gasoline = Kaboom Ask Jay Leno Use a stripper, then sand by hand, prime and paint

Im in my 60s now but one thing my Dad drilled into me was; "Dont ever throw away an old part until the new one is installed and working. Even then, you may want to wait a bit" Words of wisdom that I still live by
