    Bow light not working

I'm thinking it may be a SPDT switch and the wires are backwards. . . or the switch itself is upside down. Won't really know until we get a bit more info about the switch (pictures of switch . . . front & back)

    Bow light not working

Can we get a picture of the back of the switch? Did the switch work properly before?

Kodiak Anchor - Made by SouthCoast Marine . . .???

All set . . . . . The rode does need some tension on it for it to make the transition from line to chain, but it should be fine. In doing a few test anchorings, I noticed that the bow roller had more sharp edges and was abrading the rode. So I did a bit more filing and sanding of the sharp...

    Faria SmartCraft Speedometer???

Another update . . . I removed the 3-gauge cluster (2 Tachs & Speedo) to get a look at the wiring connections at the back of the gauges. The tachs have no secondary connection, only the primary 12-pin connector. The depth is going to the speedometer as the wiring diagram shows. I looked...

    Bow light not working

When installing the new bow light, did you do anything at the switch? or did the wiring to the switch remain as it was previously?

Kodiak Anchor - Made by SouthCoast Marine . . .???

Yup, my rode is the 3-strand twisted . . . I tend to do better with braided or 8 plait. I used the tail end of the rode which is basically like new, since the rode has not been let out that far. I also tapered the strands and made sure to pull things tight as I went. Hopefully this...

Kodiak Anchor - Made by SouthCoast Marine . . .???

A bit of a fail today getting the anchor re-installed. It fit nicely, but . . . the backsplice was too fat for the windlass, so it would not get to the chain part when reeling it in. The OEM rode had a stainless steel crimp instead of the splice, but I'm not sure I can do the same. I brought...

Boat not take off when everyone sitting in the back

Yes, a people problem, not a mechanical issue. Sounds like you know the solution. :)

1993 Reinell 196brxl fuel tank cap

Welcome to iBoats . . . There should be access to the top of the fuel tank, perhaps via a hatch in the ski-locker or the cockpit sole. On the top of the tank near the fuel sender, there should be a certification label for the tank, which will include the capacity of the tank.

    CO2 issues

FWIW - I had an issue with the exhaust 'down elbows' on my Mercruiser 7.4 (I know you have a V-P, but could be a similar situation). Saltwater took its toll on the aluminum exhaust duct. . . . There was a faint exhaust smell whenever I checked the engine bay while the engines were running...

    CO2 issues

Wondering why you are running the blowers for an hour after you return to the dock? Is there an issue we are not hearing about? CO2 monitor would be in the cabin and a fume detector would be in the engine bay/bilge. Assuming it is the CO2 . . . then you probably have an exhaust leak. Salt...

    Dog Boarding From Water Options

I have a 'Paws Aboard' ladder. It needs to be attached to a swim ladder, but probably could be attached to the boat in a similar way. It is a bit more stable and sturdy for large dogs. . . .

High compression in 1 cylinder - 7.4 carb

Make sure to get one with a 7mm (or less) camera probe, as 10mm is too big to get a good look into the cylinder.

High compression in 1 cylinder - 7.4 carb

Salt water? or Fresh? If it was rebuilt 2 years ago, excess carbon should not be an issue at this point. #8 does not look like it is firing as well as the other cylinders. A borescope is a good idea so you can see if there is fluid (oil, water?) in the cylinder.

    Help water leaking

Just checking one thing . . . on the GM 5.0 engine there is a core plug behind where the engine mount is located (both sides) . So, the engine may need to come out in order to properly assess and fix. If the core plug is pushed out if could be a sign of the engine block freezing. Can we get...

    Help water leaking

'Core plug' not soft plug. But probably what it is. The fact that it was winterized DIY is interesting. I am wondering if there is good access to the core plug without removing the engine. Looks like it needs to be investigated further.

    Sears outboard

Greetings and welcome to iBoats. You really don't need to do too much leg-work in order to sell them. They will probably go as 'parts motors' to someone who restores old outboards, because they look like they are missing cowling, etc. If you can get $100 each that might be good.

    transom repair options

Following along. I lived in Pasadena for a few years shortly after college. I didn't do any boat work out there, but recall it sure got hot in the summer. So, working temperatures may be a consideration when you get to the glassing stage. I've seen a few transoms done from the outside, but...

    Help water leaking

Welcome to iBoats . . . It could be a number of things, so you should have a closer look and get a few more pictures if you can. Some possibilities are: Hose clamp loose Engine block drain loose Crack-in-the-block Can you tell us bit about the engine's history?

    Rotella ELC coolant in Mercruiser?

What about Walmart or automotive stores? The West Marine price seems a bit steep. Lots of brands of EG coolant that should be fine. I've used all sorts of EG coolant in my Mercruiser 7.4 engines.
