How to pressure test a 4.3 l mercruiser

Post the serial number to your engine, as the cooling systems do vary a bit. A few pictures of the engine would be good to see as well. Also decide If you want/need to include the exhaust manifolds in the test, or if it is just the engine block. Tell us a bit of background that is leading you...

    Seats

Perhaps they got thrown away with the restoration debris, but keep looking. Options would be to: 1) find another Bayliner 2152 in a salvage yard, or 2) make new seats. If they are just the seat bases (not the backrests) it should be fairly easy to fabricate a base. If you are going to get...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Yup, the nice thing about a closed cooling system is that they are relatively easy to pressure test . . . if it comes to that.

    F-150 Transmission Issues (I think? . . . No, I thought )

The truck still runs and tows. I've been running the SeaFoam 'TransTune' stuff in it for the past month and driving it locally now and then. It seems to be better, but will make the noise and tachometer slippage if I really accelerate hard. Probably will do another transmission fluid and...

    Slow trim response

Post a picture of the pump and as best you can the oil level in the plastic reservoir.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Yup . . . The temperature blip was just a bit odd, since I rarely see anything in the 170˚F range. Mostly 163-165. I'll be working on the boat on Wednesday, just hoping for a good outcome.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Thanks for the advice @Lou C I ordered an exhaust gas testing kit, just in case the easy stuff does not prove to be the issue. I’m also thinking that the exhaust gasses would end up in the heat exchanger and bubble to the top, and not really force water out as much, but hard to tell. The...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Having a slight panic attack . . . 😱 In thinking more about my overflowing coolant reservoir, one of the causes of such is a blown head gasket. o_O Other common causes are the thermostat failure, and the 'radiator' cap (H.E. pressure cap) failure. I had not thought about it until now, since...

Tightening stripped screws in hatch lid hinge in fiberglass

My Comments . . . Epoxy to tighten up the hole and then use the existing screw. Plastic inserts as mentioned If you can get to the back side of the the area where the screw goes in . . . Go with a machine screw/nylock nut combination A piece of HDPE plastic (Starboard) on the backside and...

replacing the inner prop shaft seal on bravo 3

IIRC, the bearing carrier needs to come out, then the outer prop shaft. I have some pictures on page 2 of my thread (link below) https://forums.iboats.com/threads/bravo-iii-aahhh-phooey.644959/ Make sure to have the Bravo service manual as your guide. The bearing carrier (reverse threaded)...

    Looking at a 1987 Bayliner 2160 Hardtop ???

Wow . . . A Bayliner from the 1980's and OMC power package to go with it . . .. Ownership could be interesting, but there is always a diamond in the rough. Let's see how things go with the inspection (is it a certified Marine Surveyor?)

    Slow trim response

My guesses are: Slow to come up . . . Hydraulic fluid (oil) is low or has water in it. Quick to go down . . . Gravity is in your favor.

    Quadrajet Secondaries Problem

Well @nola mike does have a point (although may not have gotten any takers on his 10:1 odds) this thread does seem to be a continuation of the boat/engine situation from last year. We'll give it a few more days, to play out with any updates or additional comments, but we may close this thread...

    Vintage Mercury Cooling Issue

New spark plugs finally arrived. I'll be putting them in this week and see how things go. If I can make it thru the season on this motor, then it may be a keeper. Meanwhile, I am looking on FB and CL for back-ups.

Where to buy matching paint for my 1999 Sailfish?

Try Spectrum color . . . even then it may be hard to match since the original color probably has faded in the 24 years since the boat was new.

    Found rotten wood

Read through some of the restoration threads to get an idea of how folks have done it in the past. Each restoration is unique, but you will see the common approaches by reading through some threads of those who have gone before you. A few pictures from further back will help with responses.

Volvo Penta 5.7 closed cooling (half system)

I would try to go to a full system (rather than a half system) if you are going to run in the ocean. Also, those are pretty old engines . . . Currently an open cooling system? Have they been 100% fresh water? If not then you might have too much rust scale in the cooling passages to have a...
