    Water tank heating

How would one calculate State of charge w/o considering voltage? This is the one I use to charge my two batteries with a common source https://www.bluesea.com/products/7610/SI-ACR_Automatic_Charging_Relay_-_12_24V_DC_120A

    UUUUGGGHHH

It’s all relative… We’ve had air temps right around 100F with high dew points for the past 4 days. Had a “feels like” temp of 108F yesterday. Mrs. Dingbat and I had a very enjoyable evening at the pool last night after being held up in the house most of the day with the AC on. The air temp...

Takes on water over the transom while loading and unloading

Scuppers are there to allow water to drain out of the splash well should the need arise. Plugging them is never a good idea. Are the scupper flaps in place? The steepness of the ramp should have no bearing on how the boat sits in the water. How far above the water line is the top of the transom...

    Summer Night Fishing

My favorite is a black Smack-it at night. Deadly in the inlet at night with a moving ride https://stillwaterlures.com/classic-painted/

helm wiring, should be simple, i'm not too bright.

Occurs when a motor shorts thru the windings. I went to the boat one night to the red light on the bilge pump switch just barely glowing. Pump armature locked up. Ultimately the culprit was water in the bilge that froze, actuating the float switch. With no water to cool it, the motor burned...

What is this connector and bracket? Fishfinder/GPS/etc.?

Spent my entire career manufacturing, designing and supporting industrial measurement instrumentation. Have this conversation with customers almost on a daily basis with the wide scale implementation of ISO/IEC 17025 Quality System related to measurements. Your confusing accuracy with...

    Insurance

Asked my agent about the boat when I renewed our homeowners and upped our umbrella last fall. Told me it would be a waste of time and effort… My policy has a $20k agreed hull value, $7k rider for equipment, $500 in towing, $75k spill coverage along with the same $30k/$60k/$15k liability as my...

Takes on water over the transom while loading and unloading

Having a hard time envisioning a scenario where the rear of the boat, untethered from the trailer, would sink below the water line while backing a bunk trailer in the water. Boat should float as soon as you clear draft depth. Is the winch cable taunt while backing into the water

    Insurance

Some insurance companies will add a boat to your homeowners as a rider, but an umbrella policy is primarily setup to protect your Net Worth from excess insurance liabilities should something happen. It’s been my experience that a 3rd party stand alone insurer’s policy is considerable less...

What is this connector and bracket? Fishfinder/GPS/etc.?

There is no difference in the “accuracy” between a $150 unit and a $4,000 unit. Your Striker will give the same depth as either one of my high end units. The difference is the sensitivity, and it’s a combination of the quality of the transducer, the signal processing and the resolution of the...

Are you sure about that? Our umbrella is only an extension to our primary insurance policy coverage. It does not provide stand alone coverage.

What is this connector and bracket? Fishfinder/GPS/etc.?

Well, here is your cable…..it’s a Lowrance power only cable. Now you need is a transducer. Guessing it was removed with the unit since you can’t find one Compatible with Lowrance HDS, Elite Ti, Elite, and Hook displays...

helm wiring, should be simple, i'm not too bright.

Nothing wrong per se, just be aware that electricity takes the route of least resistance. That’s what ohm’s law explains in the triangle I posted above. If a wire increases in resistance, electricity can/will find a different path to close the circuit, possibly overloading another circuit...

What do you Recommend for Beautifying a Teak Swimstep?

Teak went out of vogue back around the turn of the century. Too much work to maintain coupled with conservation concerns pretty much sealed its fate. Replaced by starboard (HDPE) for the most part that requires little to no maintenance at all.
