    My boat is being a boat . . .

Greetings, A little venting session. . . . I started my annual ritual of getting the boat ready for its seasonal launching. Winter cover comes off Batteries look OK Initial starting of the engines. VesselView says Starboard is OK - Starts up, water flowing, oil & temperature are...

Oil change interval, synthetic or no, curious what we all do

Synthetic will get you 10K miles or more. Dino maybe about 6K max . . . The F-150 with the turbos probably will appreciate the synthetic. Even though the syn oil costs more, it is less than replacing turbos or having an engine rebuild.

    Blistering paint on lower unit

Not sure why you would leave the motor tilted down in the lake over the winter, or even at all. One of the main purposes of an outboard motor is that you can/should tilt them up out of the water when not in use.

    Bravo 1 low water pressure

Just found the OP's boat/engine on a prior thread . . . 2011 Crownline 21SS with a 6.2L 377 MAG w/cats, Bravo 1, S/N is 1A645849 Also do you have closed cooling or 'standard' cooling? I'm guessing closed cooling based on the Popeye valve :D

    Bravo 1 low water pressure

The OP mentioned that this is the first year of the CAT engines, so guessing around 2012-23 . Bravo 1 does not have much to do with it, unless it is Bravoitis. Yes . . . engine & serial number would be good. BTW - I'm fighting with the port engine . . . similar thing . . . low water pressure.

    F-150 Transmission Issues (I think? . . . No, I thought )

Thanks guys. I know that if I take it to a transmission shop, that they will just replace the transmission with a re-built one and about $6K later the problem should be solved. :ROFLMAO: If it was a daily driver, then that would be my best option. However, I only use the truck a few times a...

How to actually BOOK a flight online?

I've had a bad experience or two booking airlines, etc through the third party booking (expedia, orbitz, etc.) I always book through the airlines. It is a little more $$$, but if you run into a problem the customer service aspects are better if you booked through the airline. Also, as far as...

    Cooling system question

Got any pictures of the engine installed that you can post? Keep in mind that the only water new (cool) water gets into the engine is for the existing (warm/hot) water to exit through the risers. the thermostat opening decides how much water recirculates through the engine vs. how much exits...

    Serviced 25Hp Merc. won't start.

"after 1+ years of sitting" . . . My first thing to check/resolve would be the fuel system. 'Servicing' would not necessarily make the fuel system protected for a long layup. So, the fact that the engine was 'serviced' (what ever that means :D ) has little to do with the fuel system...

    How to remove Helm Lid

My boat does not have a kill switch (from what I can tell) and I'm thinking of installing at least a basic tether kill switch like I had on the Formula. The FOB version looks interesting, but maybe a bit pricey for me. (I'd probably loose the Fob) How does Chappy feel about customers doing...

Repair Manual for newer MerCruiser 4.5L 250hp

I have the big brothers to that engine . . . 2016 6.2L 350 HP. They do require a learning process vs. the old-school GM-based engines. Anyway, I have not seen that the manuals are online (just parts lists and diagrams https://public-mercurymarine.sysonline.com/Login.aspx ), since the...

Do new gimbal bearings not swivel

What @mvn said. . . The gimbal portion is very stiff and usually takes the alignment bar to have enough leverage to move/adjust the gimbal. This often throws off first time installers when they go to check the alignment or install the outdrive and the bearing is not initially aligned to the...

Adding a windlass to my scout 282

Typically, you will have large wires running from the battery switch area to the bow. So, if your battery switches are in a different location than your batteries or the helm, look there. The control switch (up/down) wiring may be at the helm, but probably not the main power wiring, as those...

    Fuel capacity

Welcome to iBoats . . . You should be able to find the certification label on the fuel tank, which will give the capacity (gallons). Look for a deck plate in the cockpit floor or in a ski locker under the cockpit floor. It should give access to the top of the tank where the sender and...

    F-150 Transmission Issues (I think? . . . No, I thought )

It looked like the fluid had been changed, but not sure about the filter. The magnet had no metal shavings just a very fine powder on it. So I assume the pan had been dropped at some point. After having researched the function of the lock-up clutch, I'm thinking it may be the solenoid or...

    trim tabs or not?

Low speed 'waggle', which is common with V hulls. Trim tabs will not do anything about the waggle. You'll get used to it and don't over compensate your steering in the meantime.

    Ambitious fraudster or rare machine

Mercruiser is Mercury's branding for their sterndrive (I/O) engines. It is a fair assumption that a PO had those stickers lying round and used them on the OB cowl. The older Mercury OB's used a gear on the end of the twist-grip shaft rather than cables.

    Mercury 9.9 hp.

A bit more information on the year (vintage, serial #) of the 9.9 would be helpful. Assuming it is a 2-stroke model . . . When running the motor in a bucket , the spent 2-cycle oil will be quite present in the bucket after a bout 10 minutes of run time. Exhaust will come out of the vents on...
