Fuel economy of a 2000 Cobalt 226 454 mag mpi with bravo lll

Welcome to iBoats . . . :D 2.5 MPG is my guess, based on what my 24 footer got for mileage. $24,856 is my market value guess  Check Bucvalue.com to see if they have an estimate for the boat.

Boat not running at full power

+1 ^^^ There are so many things that it could be, you really need to narrow it down. Are you or you husband any good at mechanical stuff, engines, etc? If not it could be an extremely difficult process to take on your own.

    Safety chains are hot?

My new trailer has a wiring issue ( bad ground connection) and the only way to get the lights to work is to connect the safety chains. So, yes the chains can be the ground circuit if the wiring harness is not providing a ground. A quick test may be to see if the lights (and anything else...

    Happiest Day of Ownership !!!

Quick update . . . I power washed the hull and outdrives, so all is pretty much ready for AF painting. Struck out on installing sea water strainers (as noted in my Mercruiser thread), but got the pumps with new impellers installed. Sea water strainers to be continued . . . I am still chasing...

New Style Sea Water Pump - Impeller Change

Quick Update . . . I am back to the drawing board on the sea water strainers, but the sea water pumps are in. A couple of issues . . . Starboard engine - not enough clearance under the engine for the strainer. Port engine - plenty of clearance, but the intake assembly is not too stiff to...

New Style Sea Water Pump - Impeller Change

Their location (down in the bilge) is the biggest issue, and I would thing the crank-mounted pumps (Volvo) are better in that regard. One thing that I did notice was that the hose itself is very thick-walled and reinforced (because of its purpose), so it is nearly impossible to slide on/off the...

Pasty oil coming out the valve covers

Welcome to iBoats. Don't eat the paste. Sure has the signs of water in the oil, which may indicate a cracked engine block or the exhaust manifolds. What more can you tell us about this engine and its maintenance/winterization.

New Style Sea Water Pump - Impeller Change

Here are the inlet hoses (original) and the new sea water strainers . . . . . I could only find 2 of the 4 "reducing adapter" fittings needed to connect it all up. (the search continues) The sea water intake line has the quick release mechanism that you can see in the picture. Of course...

1999 Mercruiser 7.4 (454) MPI Engine overheated today...

Maybe an "IAC Whistle", but doubtful it was causing the overheat. I would clean the flame arrestor (remove it and clean it) and check to see if there is dirt/clogs in the duct of the IAC. (can't remember on that year 7.4 how the IAC is set up.) Then see if you are still overheating and address...

    Lack of power

Running in neutral means nothing. (Lots of folks say their engines run great in neutral, and they are right) As the others have said . . go through the wiring and timing to make sure something is not amiss. (We) assume that it was running fine before the tune-up (?)

Timing curve for VP 7.4 with EST ignition

My recollection is about 28˚ advance (total), starting at the 10˚ base timing advance. Full advance is at about 2500-3000 RPM. So, your chart is about right (IIRC)

New Style Sea Water Pump - Impeller Change

My new-2-me boat has the new style Mercruiser 'in-house built' engines and related goodies. The sea water pumps are supposedly good for 300 hours between impeller changes. My boat has 275 hours, so I decided to do them now rather than mid-season. The old style pump used to be about a 4 hour...

Bravo drive is hard to shift into reverse?

If you've got one of those big ugly quicksilver throttle/shift control units, you can probably lift the cover and get at the mechanical stuff. (Assuming you do not have DTS on that boat ??? ) Fogging oil is your friend (keep the WD-40 for another use.) If that fials to improve...

    Happiest Day of Ownership !!!

Not launched @mickyryan . . . still a driveway queen at this point. Now that the blowers are working, I did fire the engines up and they both started right up and ran OK. I am going to scale back on the planned improvements before I do actually launch this thing and only do the repair &...

    Happiest Day of Ownership !!!

No, just traditional analog wiring. The CanadaBus (digital) wiring is associated with the engine/outdrive. All fixed though. . . now to start the engines

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

The sunbed is now operational . . . To @Scott Danforth 's point about boat seating . . . they never go back together the way they were originally (it seems). I put the rear seat hinges in all of the pre-existing holes. Yet, the seat in its raised position comes up a wee bit short of its...
