Why I'm nervous boating at night...

My cousin was returning from the Gulf at night in Bay St. Louis, he had his radar on and barely saw a blip in front, some idiot in an ocean canoe with no reflective gear or a light. His 27 Parker would have defenitely killed that guy.

Right Hand Prop versus Left Hand Prop - OEM versus installed

The drive is designed to run either way, that way they can be used on a dual engine boat.

    Separate intermediate housing?

They do take some leverage to break loose. I used to use a 4’ piece of 2”x4” which worked good. They are thick enough to get in front of the raised boss while using the edge of the hole as the fulcrum point. I must have replaced at least 20 of them over the years. Be careful scraping the old...

Mercruiser 470 runs rough after 15 Minutes

With a volt meter connected to the + or bat side of the coil run the boat and watch the voltage compared to when you first started out. There should be 8-9 volts when the engine is running. If the voltage starts dropping below the starting point when the engine starts slowing down then the...

    Cooling orifice tube

Any boat with a Bravo that is getting old needs the water pickup plumed through the bottom with sea valve and connected with a “Y” fitting connecting the drive incoming water to the bottom incoming water . If you go on the Donzi site you will get the idea how much this a problem solver.

OMC I/O first test drive, need some part names.

Google Taylor Made boat tops and hardware. They have everything you will need to repair the slide hardware. As far as the belt you will just have to experiment which one is correct. Take a close look at the pulleys for rust. That always kills belts and the dust from the belt will end up...

1990 Chris-Craft Concept 4.3 OMC Cobra PLEASE HELP

The blower, bilge pump, lights or any other items not related to the engine’s operation are on a seperate circuit and should not be fed through the ignition switch. In other words their circuits are always hot as long as the battery is connected. I have seen boats that had the fuse panel being...

mercuiser 888 wont idle below 1000 rpm

You need to check that the”0” top dead center timing mark on the balancer and the timing pointer with #1 cylinder at top dead center are the same. It may be possible that the outer ring of the balancer has slipped. When a Holley carburetor is correct the idle stop screw is around 1-1.5 turns...

Have you replaced the impeller in the sea water pump recently? Worse case scenario could be a case of Bravoitis.

1990 Chris-Craft Concept 4.3 OMC Cobra PLEASE HELP

The start wire is the yellow/red, the ignition should be purple and as you already know the battery wire is red. If you remove the switch the backside should be marked B-bat, s-start & I- ignition. Do this and be sure that all the wires on the backside of the instrument panel are tight.

Head gasket replacement for an old boat

I think you have more than a head gasket leak. Pull the intake manifold and you will probably see a crack or a piece of the block laying in there. Do this first before ordering any parts.

    AQ125a overheating

Just try it in different settings. Most times the center hole is the best all around. Is your transom flexing? Bayliners have a bad reputation with transom problems. Look inside where the bolts come through, check to see if the hex nuts are tight.

    AQ125a overheating

The kick stand you referred to is the trailering bracket. It has to be removed for boating. The way the Volvo trailering/beaching lift is made the pitch of the lift screw will not hold the drive up when trailering and the drive could be dragging on the ground.

    for discussion

There is a marina somewhere in Nova Scotia that has under ground power cables. At a OMC seminar they showed us a picture of a drive completely eaten off at the water line.

    1987 VP 290 cooling problem

In the lower the water cavity should be open. The stainless tube in the suspension fork is hollow. Unless it is packed with mud I cannot imagine what could cause water not to flow. Keep us informed what you find.

    1987 VP 290 cooling problem

Try plugging the hole first. Also check the area where the lower unit mates to the suspension fork. There is a “O” ring at that joint that will get air if the “O” ring is worn. This causes overheating when the boat is planing.
