    Need bottom paint removal help

I've used 'Peel Away' to soften up bottom paint so it can be easily removed with putty knives. Then you could media blast to get any residual. The challenge is always to remove the paint and leave the gelcoat.

    Engine redlining after starting

Greetings and welcome to iBoats . . . Well, you know it is not the fuel pump. Go back to the basics - is the throttle position correct? Starting at little/no throttle? Are we talking a carburetor engine or fuel injected? Got a serial number of the engine to share?

    U-Joints for 2003 Alpha One Gen 2

You do want the more heavy duty u-joint, but no need to pay the Merc price. Shop it around for generic equivalents. Keep in mind that Mercruiser buys most of their stuff (parts) from transportation industry suppliers, packages them and slaps the big $$$ tag on them. I've bought many GM and...

    HDPE plastic for swim platform

You could go with a solid piece instead of slats. I believe HPDE is available with a non-skid surface, or you can add one. Support of the platform form underneath will be important.

20 foot 1997 Maxum 2050 bowrider propeller question

I think you should try a 17P prop, maybe even a 4-blade. 18 pitch seems a bit high for that boat/engine.

    Mercruiser 8.2 w/Cats & Closed Cooling Question

@Lou C We are thinking 'twin or triple outboards' big :p There are a few Intrepids for sale up in my neck of the woods (ocean), so I may take a look in the coming weeks.

    Mercruiser 8.2 w/Cats & Closed Cooling Question

Doing a bit more research into this whole Cat Converter thing . . . It looks like the V-P engines include the exhaust manifold in the closed cooling portion and only the riser/elbow is exposed to raw water. The Mercruiser engines seem quite the opposite, where the manifold picks up raw water...

    Mercruiser 8.2 w/Cats & Closed Cooling Question

Thanks for your comments guys - Yes, 2010 was the transition year, so 2013 would definitely be Cats. There are no engine pictures in the Ad, so I've asked for some, but . . . I did look up the 8.2 engine parts diagram (with Cats) and it appears that the exhaust manifolds are fed directly...

    Mercruiser 8.2 w/Cats & Closed Cooling Question

Greetings, I am considering looking (which is another way of saying a long way from buying) at a 2013 Formula 350 CBR with the 430 HP Mercruiser 8.2 MAG HO engines. There is not much info on the engines in the advertisement, but . . . - The Ad says 'manifolds replaced in 2019' . . . -...

Mercruiser 5.7 shuts off when idling when warm

My thought is fuel pump. Not sure if you have a mechanical or electric pump. If it is mechanical - check to see if the mechanism is worn or the diaphragm has developed a perforation.

    '99 MerCruiser MPI surging question

Not sure a tune-up or injector cleaner will fix the issue. Keep in mind that the engine is run by a computer and the computer is responding to what the various sensors are telling it. So, it is a fair bet that there is one sensor that is starting to act up and producing 'false' or erratic...

    Bad drive oil leak

Well, there is no such thing as a 'good' oil leak. As stated, pressure check the outdrive, make sure the bellows are in good shape and seal up properly when you re-install. Sometimes the leak can be from the gear oil reservoir to the transom, other times it is the outdrive itself.

Where is the lowest prices for new outboard engines?

There have been and continue to be scam sites for outboards. They basically collect your money and have no actual product to sell. So, it is like @Scott Danforth says. . . too good to be true. Lots of instances and discussion on the THT site, since they are mostly outboard/fishing boats.

Replace water inlet hose on Bravo 3

Look for this part #. It is pre-formed and addresses Bravoitis. Mercruiser 32-8M0090859

Replace water inlet hose on Bravo 3

Go with the molded (i.e. OEM) part, as it is pre-shaped to fit the contour where the inlet hose has to lie along side and up/around the u-joint bellows. There are a couple of bends that are nearly 90˚, IIRC.

Time it takes to prime cooling system?

The intake hose and sea water pump are pretty much under water, or close to it, so those will be primed within seconds. Water will reach the thermostat within 10 seconds as mentioned. You will get water out of the exhaust fairly quickly, as some of the raw water by-passes the engine and goes...

Water in Bilge? Where can it come from.......

    - Exhaust tubes where they connect to the Y-pipe - All of your intake hoses, starting at the transom fitting and working your way forward. An inspection camera may be a good thing to have in order to 'see' all the various places you need to look.

Mercruiser 7.4L MPI Throttle Adjustment ???

Yes, I figure there is very little difference in the last few % of throttle position setting. I wanted to make sure the throttles reliably go back to the 0% position, so I could only adjust at the engine a certain amount. At the helm control levers, the port lever - in the neutral position -...

Mercruiser 7.4L MPI Throttle Adjustment ???

Quick Update - Easy peasy . . . I was able to adjust at the engine end of the control cable. I got it to about 94%, which should be fine. There is a little bit of uneveness at the control levers themselves, causing the port lever to 'bottom out' before the starboard lever.
