    Second Happiest Day . . .

Yes, I just realized I'm down to having only 3 boats. I better get busy on finding a 'new' one.

    Second Happiest Day . . .

The new owner came all the way from Mississippi to get the boat. He built the trailer for an exact fit of the 330 hull. Definitely a hands-on, DIY guy like myself. He wanted a party boat that could handle the salt water.

    Second Happiest Day . . .

I am 'looking' at (i.e. considering) a variety of boats . . . Cruisers 328/338 Chaparral 327/337 SSX Cobalt 336 Intrepid 348 With my budget, the 32-33 footers would be I/O's and the Intrepid is OB's. Formula did not make the short list for a couple of reasons . . . 1) The Formula 33 footers...

    Bravo One Cooling/Flushing

there is an adaptor kit available. Also keep in mind that if your muffs are getting sucked flat you could buy a better pair . . . or . . . maybe not enough water pressure from the hose? You should be able to run at idle and maybe a fast idle 1200 RPM with the garden hose as a water source.

Need Help From You Guys That Have Prop Efficiency Calculators

The 'new' engines have the variable valve timing, etc. which allows them to rev higher and still have mild/little valve overlap at idle speeds. So, you can get a lot more out of few cubic inches, as Scott indicated. That boat is light (what brand/model? . . . I might have missed a prior...

Mercruiser 454 Oil/PS Cooler Replacement Question - Loss Of Oil

Pretty straight forward as I recall - It won't bite ya . . . 😆 - I assume you have the Mark 4 version of the 454, being a 1990. - +1 on pressure testing it, because if it is good, your oil issue is elsewhere.

    1981 7.5 merc surging idle

The surge could be the fuel mixture leaning out briefly due to contaminants in the fuel system/carburetor. I would do a rebuild/cleaning of the carb, make sure you have good fuel lines and an in-line fuel filter.

Good Idea or Bad Idea. Stringer Prep.

FWIW - you want the stringers to be like a dry sponge for the resin (epoxy or poly) so you get the best possible bonding. Pre-treating the stringers defeats that purpose. The fact that you are using epoxy puts you at a higher 'waterproofing' level than using poly resin.

1990 (ish) Yamaha 3 HP only runs on choke

Thanks @Lou C I will check out more adjustments on the carb. There is a diamond shaped plate on to of the carb, but I don't recall any adjustment s under there. The storm was a non-event here . . . just a windy day, not much rain. Seems that the rain was more on the west side of the storm.

1990 (ish) Yamaha 3 HP only runs on choke

Almost 1 year to the day since I started this thread and I am still battling with the Yammy 3HP kicker engine that I use for the dinghy. I used it for about 6 weeks this year while my Merc 7.5 HP was laid up. The Yammy has gotten progressively worse at staying running, particularly below 1/3...

IAC whistle ??? Merc 7.4L MPI

Thanks guys . . . I am not finding the foam piece in the parts list, so perhaps it is just a cleaning of the air by-pass and throttle plates (which the high speed plate has the hole) Here is a picture from my recent throttle adjustment work (adjusted port engine only)

    Stuck Valve/Cracked Head/Cracked Block

I am thinking that should have made quite the noise . . .

IAC whistle ??? Merc 7.4L MPI

Greetings - The last 2 times I've shown my boat to a prospective buyer, there was a distinct 'whistle' noise coming from the engine(s). (Yes, the boat is for sale) The noise/whistle is while running at idle, engines warm. I'm thinking it is the IAC, but wanted to check in with the experts...

    Mercury 7.5 water pump melt-down . . .

With a burst of motivation, I fixed (replaced) the water pump on the Mercury and got it running again. I had to run some barnacle buster through the cooling system and blow some air through it as well in order to get a decent flow of water. I think the cooling system could use a heavier dose...

Best Way to Lay Resin on CSM?

I usually lay CSM on resin rather than resin on CSM . . .

Water found in foam cored hull. Does the foam absorb/retain water?

New foam would not absorb water . . . 25+ year old foam may very well, since the closed cells have broken down over time.
