    Circuit Breakers Question

Anything to save a couple of $$ I’ll take fuses over breakers any day. You can get home with a gum wrapper if worst come to worst.

Fasteners thru hull of thin hull fiberglass boat below waterline

Repairing holes or stripped threads is easy using the procedure outlined below. Have repaired deck screws, fish finder mount holes in transoms, etc. Drill the hole a bit over sized and through the material. Counter sink the gel coat side a bit to make it easier to fill the void. Clean debris...

    Type of sealant to use

You hear people say that all the time but that has not been my experience. Used Silicon II to caulk two, large fiberglass panels down the middle of the cockpit…..twice. Don’t ask…lol Cut most old material away with razor blade. Alcohol cuts the remaining residue. Doesn’t take long to clean...

    Boat trailer brakes

Keep in mind that good design practice mandates a minimum 200% safety factor built into the load rating. Then there are ride quality issues. A #5,500 boat riding on #20,000+ of spring will not be heavy enough to load the springs properly. Ride quality would suffer badly. Might as well put hard...

Wix filter cross reference for VP 4.3?

There are no bad filters, just some better than others. I’m picky about brand of my fuel filter (Racor) and the size of my hydraulic filters. Always run the largest can that will fit all

    Type of sealant to use

Trying to seal a leaking hull seam by caulking the rub rail is an effort in futility. You are far better off removing the rub rail and tackling the joint head on. I used 5200 for it adhesion properties, but you can use just about anything to seal the joint since the joint is held together with...

Wix filter cross reference for VP 4.3?

Having played this game for years, take filter cross references with a grain of salt. They match fit….not necessarily form or function. Once you’ve identified a possible replacement, always compare the specification to the original to make sure you’re getting a comparable filter. Case in...

Anyone had electrical issues caused by plotter/fish finder ? Dragonfly in particular

Looking at the wiring diagram, the harness is wired 1:1. Pretty hard to screw that one up. Pin 4 12VDC Pin 5 GRN Pins 1 & 8 are transducer Drive and Return Pin 10 ties transducer shields (pin 1 & 8) to drain The harness has two drain (shields) lines (24 awg) and an earth ground (20awg)...

    Must Have items!!!

You’re lucky you still have that option. What little freshwater we have to swim has quality issues. Brackish water is full of critters, water borne bacterium, sea nettles, etc. Saltwater quality is good…but keep in mind you are no longer at the top of the food chain Getting wet on the boat...

Anyone had electrical issues caused by plotter/fish finder ? Dragonfly in particular

What is going on? Pulse generator, communications inputs (NMEA) and input power are isolated internally from each other. The only thing in common is ground.

    Why Oil Injection?

I'm all ears if someone can come up with a "simpler, fool proof" method of mixing 150 gallons of fuel than filling a dedicated 3 gallon tank full of oil....lol

    Must Have items!!!

A pool in the back yard and a short drive to the Atlantic Beaches leaves the boat primarily for fishing and cruising purposes. Outside of all required Safety Gear and a full array of communications and guidance electronics...... Seasonally appropriate fishing Tackle - Trolling or Bottom...

    Which fuel to use?

    Which fuel to use?

The research octane number (RON) describes the behavior of the fuel in the engine at lower temperatures and speeds, and is an attempt to simulate acceleration behavior. The motor octane number (MON) describes the behavior of the fuel in the engine at high temperatures and speeds – a...

    Stupid shake-down cruise? Lake Ontario

Those water temps are right in the zone. Wouldn’t make much of a Striper fisherman. How big a boat do you need to be safe? Sadly, we loose someone Striper fishing from a private boat every couple of years. Always the same scenario….out trolling alone without an operational man-over board...
