Garmin striker SV vs CV for quick draw lake mapping

Not sure where you got that idea. The SV has narrower beam angles and is by far the better transducer for "detail" of the two. The SV uses the GT22HW-TM CHIRP transducer. It has 3 transducers... Two (2) for side scan and one (1) center: 16 and 24 degree cone angles The CV uses the GT20-TM...

Just Cut out the Kill Switch?

I do a lot of trolling. Spend probably 60% of a day on the transom checking lines. Lanyards are useless in this application yet we loose a guy every couple of years out fishing by himself and falls overboard. Wanted to make sure I was not one of "those" guys. These work great...

How long does bottom boat paint last if I redo it

Depends on if you need the anti-fouling protection or for cosmetics only. If you want anti-fouling protection you need a paint that can be taken in and out of the water. Some paint formulations will not do that. You want a hard paint for cosmetics only. Sanded smooth and put two coats of...

Looking for $200-500 Chart Plotter Fish Finder Thoughts

Bear in mind that the maps on these units are simply digitized versions of the NOAA maps. As such, some maps can be years out of date. You can check for the latest updates here https://distribution.charts.noaa.gov/weekly_updates/

can someone let me know what fuse sizes?

Don’t worry about it. OP wants a chart…..not worth the time or effort to answer the question from a subjective viewpoint. Still wondering why the mfg. recommends a 10 amp fuse for my 25W VHF radio. It’s unfortunate that most will not get the joke…lol

can someone let me know what fuse sizes?

Paragraph number please...... 11.10.2.3 The current rating of the overcurrent protection device shall not exceed the maximum current carrying capacity of the conductor being protected. 3. It is intended that the protection provided be generally equivalent to that of wiring permitted by this...

can someone let me know what fuse sizes?

Fuse to wire size, not component to maximize circuit capabilities. It’s not a hose… fusing does not limit the amount of current being feed to the component. It limits the amount of current a component can draw from a power source.

    Perko Switch Wiring

Don’t think your starter is going to like having 24 volts applied when battery select is set to X Trolling motor circuit (24v) should be kept separate from 12 volt system. Start on switch A, house on switch B

    Anchor Rope

Shouldn't need anything larger than 1/4" on a john boat. While double braid is nice, use it for my dock lines, I run 150' of 3/8", 3 strand nylon with an eye to eye swivel and 6' of 3/8" chain on the anchor line. The three strand is easier to keep clean in the anchor locker and a lot easier...

Ground fault with black wire melting

First, are you sure the battery charger is wired correctly? Remove the charger from the situation to see what happens Remove power and ground connections from all batteries to isolate the wiring from power. Measure continuity between the “suspect” wire and each of the battery leads. Should...

Looking for $200-500 Chart Plotter Fish Finder Thoughts

How deep is the water? Depending on the transducer cone angle, you’re only “mapping” an area roughly (depth / 7) to (depth /3) with each pass. In 3 feet of water, you’re looking at 6” to 12” wide per pass. Combined a with GPS position accuracy of 3 meters, it’s going to take sometime to...

    Ez loader trailer

Guessing you have a welded steel trailer. Galvanized trailers typically have weep holes in the bottom of all frame the members including the axles. Rust starts on bolts (dissimilar metals) or rub points where the zinc coating has been compromised by wear. My 1997 Loadrite has lived in...

Ground fault with black wire melting

Never assume when it comes to wire colors. The fact that it melted when connected to ground tells you the wire has potential, in other words it’s hot. Remove the suspect wire at both ends. Test for continuity between both the ends of the wire. If that checks out, check continuity between...

    Any tricks for wire corrosion

Here is a chemical solution if the wires are not too far gone: This process uses two solutions. One is table salt and white vinegar. The other is baking soda and water. The salt and Vinegar solution works well to remove the "green" saltwater corrosion from chrome plated fishing tackle as...
