Primary and Secondary Imbalance - Alfadan Outboard Motor ?

@Scott Danforth . . . & others www.startengine.com I just came across this conceptual engine that supposedly addresses the issue of primary and secondary imbalance of internal combustion engines, which limits the size of the cylinders. I am wonder if anyone has come across this and what...

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

My lottery win has not come through, so I'll be getting a used one . . . 2015 ish. There is a 2015 Cruiser 328 CX a few miles from me, but it looks a little neglected. I have not seen it up close yet. I did look at the Aviara boats a few years ago at the Palm Beach Boat Show. Interesting...

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

    Looks like we'd be getting the Cruisers 328 w/ sterndrive (I/O) :unsure::oops:🤪

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

Thanks Guys . . . I think it will come down to what the Admiral wants vs. what the Captain wants. Perhaps we should plan some boat shopping tours over the next couple of months.

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

With 1 wedding down and 1 more to go (in October) . . . the Admiral informs me that after the weddings, we will still have a sufficient amount of cash to buy the 'next boat' . . . just might not be able to go to an extreme. 🤪 I'm still up in the air as to getting a 38 (+/-) foot boat with...

    Loaded pontoon cavitation

If you have got the prop all the way down and not experiencing any wave action, then it may be cavitation, which is the water turning to a gas/vapor on the back of the blades. Do check the engine height to make sure it is correct. But if all is right, then I would suggest going down a notch in...

    Mercury 7.5 water pump melt-down . . .

New parts are on order . . . Note to self . . . turn off the motor if going to the bow of the dinghy

    Mercury 7.5 water pump melt-down . . .

OOOPPPS . . . I did it again. Melted the impeller/pump. . . again. As i was untying the line for the dinghy at the bow, the prop/LU of the Merc came out of the water for a few seconds . . . that was enough to kill the impeller and then the water pump did another melt down. It seems that the...

    Boat refueling

I am not keen on using electric pumps for fueling, Maybe manual pumps. Also, you should not have any electricity active during fueling. So maybe something to think about . . . I usually fuel the boat a few times a year at its mooring, instead of going to the fuel dock, which is about...

Cross reference mercruiser V belt part# to auto parts store?

I just went through this with the V-belts on my Merc's . . . You have to go to the right sort of auto parts store where the clerk will actually use an existing belt to find an equivalent belt. If you have a clerk/sales person that can only look up part numbers, then you may not get anywhere...

    Repeated impeller failures, help

You will probably not see much of the intake tube with the boat in the water, as it is fairly well tucked in along side the main bellows. The best way to check it . . . or test it . . . IMO . . . would be to run the engine with the boat at rest in the water with the clear intake hose and see...

    Repeated impeller failures, help

If the intake tube that goes between the bell housing and the transom assembly has a crack in it, then the intake will suck air. So check the intake hose . . . it is on the opposite side as to what is shown in the parts diagram. Are you sure the impeller actually failed (i.e. disintegrated)...

    Thru hull exhaust

It might be good to do a bit of investigating into the engine's origin . . . If it was an automotive (Chevy as you mentioned) then were the electrical and fuel system components (starter, alternator, ignition, fuel pump/carb) switched over to marine versions? Probably the easiest thing to...

    Cobalt - 1993 198 -replacement Fuel Tanks?

Is it an aluminum tank? If so, check the certification label on the tank to see the company that made it. They could possible make you a new one. Or any local aluminum welding house could make one using the old tank for dimensions. If it is plastic, then you will probably have to find a...

    Need upholstery recommendations

I am a bit surprised that you'd be asking this question if you are in the marine industry . Is upholstery not your main business? I've had good luck with Sailrite, so it is unusual that they'd be messing up time after time. I have bought some vinyl from Bristol Upholstery (Plymouth...

7.4L MPI Intermittant Loud suck noise then stalls Hot or cold

@rothfm . . . yes I still have the Formula 330 w/ twin Merc 7.4 MPI engines. When you say 'AIC' . . . I think you mean 'IAC' (Idle Air Control). I also assume you have the 7.4 MPI (multiport injection) engines (???). Since the problem is intermittent, I would check all of the connections at...

Starts and runs at idle great on muffs or in a bucket - won't start at all in the lake or ocean.

I think the engine does not like being away from home . . . I wonder what 'serviced' really means . . . lots of people say "I just had it serviced and now it . . . " $500 . . . I'm in the wrong business  Like GM said . . . when it won't start, go through the basics . . . Fuel...

7.4L MPI Intermittant Loud suck noise then stalls Hot or cold

You can chase the problem with parts replacement, but you really need the computer diagnostics since the issue is intermittent. It could be the TPS . . . or not. You won't know until you can see the data from the engine while the problem is occurring.

2000 Four Winns H170 with Volvo 3.0 - Engine removal necessary?

21 year old boat . . . needs a starter . . . hardly a lemon. Maybe a pineapple. Has anyone tried to turn the engine over by hand? The loud bang that you heard might need some investigation/explanation. If I were me, and it was just the starter, I'd fix it myself for about $200 and...
