Does your propeller exhaust through the propeller like an outboard?

    OMC Stringer remote shift

It looks like a Morse or a Marmac. Is your drive electric shift or mechanical? There are several OMC concealed side mount controls available if you google OMC shift control.

    2007 searay 240 sundeck with a 5.0L Mercruiser

The bolts are going to be really tight. Be sure to use a 6 point wrench or socket to break them loose. The starter is about 1/2 the weight of the earlier Delco Remy type so it will not be a problem to re install the new one.

    302 ring gear replacement

The register hole that centers the starter on Ford Marine/industrial engines is about 1/8” smaller than the same plate on automobiles. If an automobile starter is bolted on it distorts the plate and the starter drive gear does not engage the flywheel correctly which will destroy the ring gear...

    302 ring gear replacement

If you have never replaced a ring gear you must heat it so that it will drop on the flywheel.

    Raw water?

I have worked on that very model. If you ever have to remove the port engine you will need to remove the manifold, front mount, heat exchanger, flywheel cover, drive coupler, flywheel, and then check in at the hospital for a transfusion. This would be a really good project for a pair of 200/300...

4.3 engine mounted raw water pump inquiry

Several posters on the Donzi/Bravo site that were having overheating problems solved them by going through the bottom of the hull. As already said the crank driven pumps will pull more water than the drive pump especially as some crank belt driven pumps are overdriven. While the V8 drive’s water...

Purchasing 2nd Boat: Jet or Stern Drive?

The test was done around 1973. I would also like to read the article again. Check out the propulsion on the Navy’s Litoral Combat Ships. The ones being built at the Austel ship yard in Mobile has 4 pumps.

Purchasing 2nd Boat: Jet or Stern Drive?

I was a Berkeley/ Jacuzzi dealer for over 30 years. I have owned and repaired all 4 styles of propulsion. Outboard, inboard, jet and stern drive.Needless to say there are legitimate pros/cons. I have repaired many stern drives from hitting submerged objects causing some to sink. I once had a...

4.3 engine mounted raw water pump inquiry

Mercruiser recommends keeping the drive impeller when using a crank driven pump and drawing water from the bottom of the hull connecting the drive pump via a “Y“ pipe arrangement. When I bought my Donzi half the blades were missing in the crank driven pump because the crank pump was pulling a...

    1989/1990 4.3 distributor

Prestolite distributors have the point rotor lobe shaft that will rust and will wear out the breaker point rubbing block. The rest of the distributor was in good condition so it was converted to a Petronics kit.

4.3 engine mounted raw water pump inquiry

As Scott said the water needs to cool the upper gear housing that is getting heated from the exhaust system, the oil in the upper is getting over heated. Volvo AQ drives have a impeller on the propeller shaft that continuously circulates the oil from the lower to the upper to keep the oil cool...

Mercruiser 3.7 (470) wont turn all the way

The valve and seat probably have a build up of rust. Just get it running and there is a good chance that the valve seat area will clear up. If it does not then the head needs to come off. Was it hard to free up the stuck valve?

Engine cutting out on low revs.

As Scott posted you need to acquire some basic equipment. Also a tool to adjust the idle mixture made for Quadrajet carburetors. These can be found a most auto stores, the Thexon is my favorite. Ignition wiring question 72 350

The wire from the regulator supplies regulated current to the field circuit to excite the alternator as you said. It could be possible that the regulator is internally shorted feeding current to the ignition circuit. Try disconnecting that wire. The Clymer diagram shows a volt meter. At...

    Ignition wiring question 72 350

Take a close look at the starter solenoid, the wire on the 3 o’clock terminal is the by pass that feeds the coil with 12 volts when cranking, it could be possible that the battery cable is contacting the small terminal back feeding the ignition. Look closely at the wiring diagram on the far...

    Ignition wiring question 72 350

I can feel your pain. 72 was the last year OMC used the hard plastic harness connectors that were prone to cause bad connections. Even if your ’s is the round rubber style just the age of the wire‘s insulation has to be the root cause, it is probably crumbling if you just touch it. The...

    oil pan gasket

Was the bushing for the lower distributor shaft also replaced? It is located just above the oil pump. If it is worn and not replaced it causes the point gap/dwell & timing to not hold steady.
