    guessing the oil is black because it is worn out . give it a flush with some acetone , replenish with the correct amount and weight of new gear oil and run it .

    not familiar with your boat or what motor you have . is there a possibility the needle an seat could be leaking if carbed motor. if fuel injected , maybe check shraeder valves , fuel pressure regulator, fuel cooler assembly. rotted fuel pump housing.

    the thing with compression testing is that it is only a comparison , test it any way that suits you but be consistent and have a full charged battery for each cylinder tested . i like to test room temperature on all engines that way i know there is consistency in the test.

    this . remove bits off the motor till you can get a good strait line to the plug hole , run the chaser with some grease to catch cuttings. no short cuts , do it right or you will do more damage.

    had a semi broken wire to the fuel pump cause a similar fault on a LS chev . wire was intact but where it went into the connector was only 3or4 strands , probably caused from some lame ass pulling the wires to unplug the fuel pump .

    gasket go genuine , aftermarket will work if OEM is unavailable . bolts and hardware should be fine wire brushed and painted.. have you pin pointed the exact area the leak is coming from ,its a good idea to do this before speculating .
