Mercury Spitfire X7 vs Solas Titan HR 4

You didn’t say what HP motor. Need HP to utilize the benefits of stainless. If you’ve already trashed a prop, I’d be very leery spending $500 on a SS prop for what will most likely be the bling factor anyhow.

    Getting Transducer Parrallel

Couple of problems with that transducer.. The first is power. Unless they changed the specs of the head unit since I installed mine a couple of years ago, the unit is rated to run 600W conventional, 500W side scan. The transducer you selected/came with the unit is rated at 350W. Your leaving a...

    Getting Transducer Parrallel

In simple terms it the motion of the ocean. Up down, back and forth. Just like the blur induced taking a picture of a moving object, the same blur happens to side scan when the boat is bouncing around. In reality, I find side scan pretty useless on open water. Comes in handy though scanning...

    Adding straight gas to mix

Are you sure about that? “Ethanol does not "grab water molecules out of the air." It is hydrophilic, which means ethanol holds water. With regular gasoline (E0) as well at E10, the primary cause of water collecting in tanks is condensation on tank walls. But unlike E0, which can absorb almost...

    Trust the dealer?

It would push a #300 boat at speed. Not sure about adding two “adults”. Bear in mind an “adult” in boating terms weighs #150

Replacing hub. New one won’t go on. What’s wrong? Do I need a new axle?

Bearing should slide on shaft with ease. Time for a file and sand paper. The shaft should be as smooth as a baby’s back side. If you can feel a bur running your hand over it you need to “sand” more

    Getting Transducer Parrallel

Same setup I’m helping a local board member install. I’m running a GT51M with a separate CHIRP thru hull transducer for running. Way better high speed performance. The location from the center line of the boat (15” from prop blades) isn’t negotiable. Otherwise you clip the outdrive with side...

    Getting Transducer Parrallel

Let’s start with what transducer are you installing and what are your expectations in performance. If all you want is depth, it’s not complicated. It was done with weights and ropes for years. Bolt the transducer on the transom and go If your goal is max. sensitivity and or installing side...

    Getting Transducer Parrallel

Eye ball….. As you noted, the exercise is to mount the transducer parallel to the bottom (of the water), not the boat. The only way to do it otherwise is to float the boat and go from there. Having said that, you will find the transducer’s fore and aft adjustment to be far more critical to...

    Adding straight gas to mix

That could be part of the problem. What fuel system cleaner do you use, if at all? When was the last time you drained and cleaned the fuel system, tank included, and decarbed the motor? Nonsense….. I burn at least 40 gallons of “gas dryer” through my outboard every year. Keeps the fuel system...

    Optima blue top for starting?

Might as well....you have nothing to loose. I've since switched over to RV batteries (deep cycle) with very good results. 10 years on last pair

    Grass Cutting

I only cut fields (weeds) 3-4 times a years. The hay burners take care of the rest. Tried to let it go until Memorial day last year. Will not do that again. Too many fawns bedded down. Too many close calls

    Optima blue top for starting?

0 for 2 with Optima. Neither made it out of warranty. One the upside, they replace both batteries under warranty, no questions asked

    Rec gas prices???

Same here. Unfortunately natural gas isn't an option. Only propane....$$$ Would go to heat pump with propane or geothermal backup like my neighbor if I was going to stay in the house more than 5 years and didn't have to tear out and replace the existing duct work. Have no interest whatsoever...

    Rec gas prices???

Wow..... thought I was getting hosed for furnace oil at $1.28 per liter ($4.75 gallon). Street diesel is currently $1.21 a liter ($4.48 per gallon)

    Radio/speaker Upgrade

“Quality” and “cleaner” don’t belong in the same sentence with marine stereos…lol THD in whole numbers (1%) and SNR in the 70’s are a joke.

    Radio/speaker Upgrade

My unit has aux (RCA) inputs so it was rather easy. Just plug in the adapter and connect to power. I don't have an amp so I connected the BT adapter power to the (switched) power output to the amp. Works like a charm

    Radio/speaker Upgrade

Something to think about.... Went on the search for a new Radio/Head unit last year to upgrade mine. Pretty much had my mind set of a Fusion MS-RA210 but was having a tough time justify spending the money to replace a perfectly serviceable 4 channel head with CD to "upgrade" to Bluetooth. In...

    Transducer installation query

Not on any Garmin units I've seen......it shoots out the sides of the mount. Drowns the side of my motor like in the video. Worried about taking out my trim buttons on that side. I was one of the early guinea pigs.... No such thing available commercially at the time. Garmin sent me a...
