Charging Issue - three battery system

The obvious answer is the battery charger. Are they turned on, working?

New aluminum fishing boat purchase advise - hydraulic steering, trim tabs, carpet

Steering can go either way. Will need hydraulic if you decide on an autopilot at a later I personally would never own a boat with tabs. One of those things you probably wouldn’t miss but can’t live without once you got used to them Carpet is for living rooms and bedrooms, not boats, especially...

    Leaking Shore Power Cable

What is “good”? Are the numbers identical? To check insulation you need a known load. Check voltage at source and compare to voltage at end of cable. Then check each leg referenced to ground. If it’s a homemade cable I would start by removing, inspecting and rewiring each connector. The only...

1995 Evinrude Ocean Pro 200 Carbed 2 stroke Flooding out at speed

With a fresh pump I’m pushing 30 psi. I change water pump when I drop below 4 at idle Don’t know why you would need a lift pump unless used as a “fix” for something else. I run a stock oil/fuel (OMS) pump with no problems

Intake Valve Coking on Direct Injected Gas Engines: Fact or Myth?

I know have 3 years on Ford 3.5 EB in my truck. My only complaint, if I have one, is spark plug life. Started getting the slightest idle “tick” @ 40k. Changed plugs and all is good again. Awesome towing motor. The low end torque is impressive.

1995 Evinrude Ocean Pro 200 Carbed 2 stroke Flooding out at speed

First thing first... compression test Need to test fuel pump pressure per the manual. All bets are off if your fuel and oil pump is suspect in the least. If it sat for any length of time you should probably remove and clean the throttle bodies. Check needle valve and floats for proper height...

Intake Valve Coking on Direct Injected Gas Engines: Fact or Myth?

“With Ford, the problem is there, but it’s not destroying the engine like it is with GM,” he says. “That might be because Ford ran the V6 EcoBoost engines through the Baja 1000 and they essentially beat the crap out of them and I think they put a little bit more engineering into the engine, so...

    Trim Cylinder Seal

Unit needs to be removed. Plan on rebuilding the entire unit while you have it out. IMHO...getting the top and bottom pins out are the worst part of the job.

    Boat Windshield Wiper

Same as a car blade. Took mine off and took it with me to NAPA. Found several refills that fit my SS "wipe blade"

    Outboard exhaust drifts towards cockpit

Perfectly normal for a two stroke. The boat moving forward creates low pressure behind the windshield which pulls smoke into the cockpit. I can eliminate most of it by opening the side vents on the windshield. Switching to a 4 stroke eliminates the issue all together

    Intermittent Alarm

Found what I was looking for.... 1-4 hg. (0.49 to 1.9 psi) Is normal operation. Switch alarms at 5.5 hg. (2.7 psi) my reserve tank 15’ of 3/8” fuel line = ~1.5 psi 16” head (empty) = ~0.4 Racor separator filter, clean = 0.6 psi Clean system drop = 2.5 psi Not much room to play with. A dirty...

    Intermittent Alarm

I always wondered about that. What mechanism is used to detect a restriction? System would need to monitor flow, vacuum or the lack there of.

    Intermittent Alarm

You need a vacuum tester For me, it was a good predict to change out the 8 years old fuel lines on the boat. In the process found a suspect oring in the tank selector valve. No problems since

Are newer 4 cycles vastly improved?

Machines don't age....they wear or fall into a state of disrepair from abuse or neglect. Two biggest killers of old machines.... lack of parts and the lack of a knowledge base to repair them. Finding someone who can work on "antiques" is problematic. My motor will be 24 yro this year. It's...
